Hello all first post here won't be last
Is Sallie Mae considered a debt collector? and or Great Lakes? |

The short answer is no. They are both lenders/servicers of student loans, both government and private, and if you were default on either one they would hire an outside collection agency to collect on the balance.
They do, however, have in house collection methods/representatives that they use in certain situations, so they could be collecting one their own loans in certain situations which would make them first party collectors. First party collectors follow a different set of rules than that of 3rd party. Hope that answers the question. |

Sallie mae has purchased several large collection agencies. One is arrow financial services. the have all those listed on the sallie mae website.
