how long legally does a creditor have to post payment on your debt to the credit reporting agencies?

I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you referring to an original creditor or a collection agency? Is the account still active or charged off? More information would help.

Your question is somewhat vague. Please explain. Some companies do not report.

sorry. i had a loan with a finance company. it was still active but i had stopped paying. i asked them if we could settle the debt for less than what was owed. they agreed. i made a payment in december for half of what we agreed upon and paid the other half yesterday. it hasnt changed from the original debt owed on my credit report, nor has any payment been reported. in addition to that they went back on our agreement to settle for less even though i have it in writing.
