My Own Little Battle with Identity Theft

OK, I was going to refinance my house - my credit is great and I’m just going to slide right in to the best rates.

Well, no actually - there is a problem. A little brief history…back in 2003, I had a tax lien on my credit report which actually belonged to a clown named Christian W. Sung (I hope you are reading this, bud!). This was a Mississippi state tax lien. Now I’ve never worked or lived in Mississippi, so this is not mine. Of course, I disputed and they verified. I then called the Rankin County Court house (where the lien was filed) and asked about this lien. They confirmed it wasn’t mine different social, and I was able to bully Equifax into removing it over the phone. Yes, I threatened a lawsuit, etc.

So fast forward 5 years and here is the tax lien AGAIN on my report. Unfortunately, it is a different number than the one I used last time so I can’t get them for reinsertion without notifying me.

I called the Rankin County Court and they say this time that it IS my SSN on this lien. Apparently, Mr. Sung filed his federal taxes using my address and SSN. Great. Fortunately, the guy over at the tax lien department said that if I could prove that this SSN was mine, we could work this out. Faxing them information tomorrow.

Fingered crossed.

Wow, this sounds very, very familiar. For 2 years Equifax was unable to even find my report.

I’ve been sued 3 times for things on my report. I’ve written, sent documents, answered the lawsuit, still the items remain on my report. It’s just swell. I went to finance a car and was quoted 25% on the loan BECAUSE OF MY CREDIT REPORT SCORE. I’m sooooooo angry that I have to just put this problem down or I’ll march over to the CRAs and start throwing dumb bells through their damned windows.(dumb bells-very symbolic.)
