To shavdaddy,
The first paragraph clearly states "...if the debt is yours pay it." Let me interpret that for you. That statement means if the debt is yours pay it, there is no advocation to "get out of money actually owed." Your presumption is that credit bureaus and collection agencies maintain, 100% without error, accurate records of each and every account file that companies like yours are trying to collect on. This is simply not true and you know it. Therefore is not heresy to cite the bible in support of somthing you know to be false? Was Paul not beheaded and Jesus not crucified by the Romans? I think there is irony in the fact that your ancestors invoked capital punishment on the person who contributed your quotation to the new testament, don't you? Everyone has a unique situation and it is not my place to pass judgement on any of them, including you. God bless.

@Kristy: Shavdaddy might have alluded to scriptures for his point. Plus, a lot of our laws are rooted from Biblical religious scriptures, so they also serve as a reference for the morality in American law including "debtor" treatment. We can learn a lot from those scriptures on how to merciful to be people who do find themselves in this kind of a bind, especially within our recent economy. The throwing stones comment is also a warning to those who like to say 'you should have paid your debt". What happens if you lose your job, or get horribly sick..and the debt and bills pile up on you? You would begin to feel how some Americans have felt dealing with those situations. Instead, we have collectors who are heaping additional stress, and sometimes going too far in their tactics.

Shavdaddy forgets; or failed to read; the part in the scriptures, in the books of Moshe (Moses) (parts dealing with procedural issues; that sets down the directive; the mandate/ the requirement really; that all debts a debtor owes be forgiven in the seventh year. That even if a person had to go into servitude in lieu of paying off a debit, that such servitude was only allowed to last for seven years and upon the seventh year the person (it was mandated and required that the person be) was to be set free again. (Actually even the land was to be relieved of its "burden" to yield crops, upon each seventh year, so that its own space and time to restore and recover itself). In fact that is (such 7th year cycle and reference in the scriptures) what the the seven year nullification and release from reporting to the credit bureaus; etc.; was originally based upon.
