Spam Volume Down Due to Credit Crunch?

The economy may be affecting who can afford to spend $.0001 per 1 million messages. Have you noticed recently that the volume of spam is down in your email boxes? I just came back from a 2 week vacation and instead of the 4500 spam email messages I expected, there were only about 300. What’s up here, I thought? I took an informal survey (not very scientific, but it’s something) on my discussion boards and it seems that some people have noticed less, some not.

In light of the fact that even behemoth Google is noticing a downturn in advertising revenue, might this apply to spam? Granted, spam is the bottom of the feeding chain, but advertising none the less.

I did a little mini-search on the web to see what was out there in the blog-o-sphere regarding this issue and found the following sites.

http://blog.mailchannels.com

http://www.marshal.com/trace/spam_statistics.asp

http://spamwars.com/stats.html

All but the last entries suggest that spam volume might be down slightly - which is about the only good news about the credit crunch.

What about you? Do you notice that your spam volume is down? Leave a comment!
