Time magazine has come up with a little nifty online poll in which you can vote for the person most responsible for the economic melt down.
Current results as of this writing:
- Phil Gramm
- Christopher Cox
- Angelo Mozilo
- Joe Cassono
- Franklin Raines
You might be asking yourself, like me, who are these guys? (**Answers at the bottom.) Where’s Bernie Madoff? How about Henry Paulson, Bill Clinton or George Bush? Well, they are in the poll, but obviously didn’t get the most votes. If you take the poll, you will learn all about the cast of characters who shaped (or destroyed) this next evolution of US economics.
So are these results correct – are these the guys responsible? If you think you know the answer, please tell the folks in Washington – they need help.
Be careful about taking this quiz at work. Don’t let your boss see you playing on the computer – you need that job.
| ** | Phil Gramm – Washington’s outspoken champion of deregulation. Angelo Mozilo – Co-founder of Countrywide Mortgage. Chris Cox – Former SEC Chairman who ignored allegations of fraud on Wall Street. Joe Cassano – Creator of credit-default swaps which were the principal downfall of AIG. Franklin Raines – At the helm of Fannie Mae. |
