  1. Thanks retmar! Yeah, I did some research this weekend... I want to be prepared as much as possible so thank you everyone for the advice. I wish these scammers would give me more information so I could file complaints. It's the alleged "litigation service" that keeps calling me on behalf of their "client" named Riverside and claims that they cannot provide their client's information to me. (Frustrating). Anyway, I talked to my family members, and I'm going to talk to my work today. You're right... don't be embarrassed! Fight!
  2. Thanks for the words of encouragement, TomnTex and everyone else! Another thing that worried me was that I got a call from my cousin... who lives 10 hours away from me! We hardly talk... I don't even have her cell phone number nor her house number. BUT these people... the locater service people... somehow got a hold of her yesterday. They called her home number which I don't even have myself, and they told her that I listed her as my emergency contact. Absolutely insane. Makes me wonder who else they call... completely embarassing! I know it's difficult to make them stop, but I wish they would! I told them to serve me the papers and to bring it to my place of employment. But they said they had to call HR and my Risk Management Department and follow their protocol. I just want as much information as I can on them.
  3. Wow, thanks willingtocope! I've never heard from CFPB before, and I'm definitely going to file a complaint. To be honest, years and years ago I had pay day loan problems. I thought I cleared it up with all of them... but this may be one straggler that I just forgot. It is VERY VERY upsetting to know they can call my supervisor and my family! It had my parents worried... I just want to be able to do the right thing to make them stop. And what's even scarier is that they have all of my information. If they call again... which I know they will... what should I do? Bayside is the one that is calling me which is supposedly the litigation service. Can I send them a cease and desist? I even asked for the information for Riverside and they won't give it to me. I just want them to leave my family and work alone. And I want to make this go away forever.
  4. How long does it take to see a post? I tried to start a new thread yesterday, but my post hasn't come up. I apologize if posting a new thread would be annoying, but I am freaking out. Here is what I posted: I am freaking out just a tiny bit… I hope someone can help me with legal issues before I start to go in panic mode! J I got a call from a locator service who is trying to serve me papers at work! This business called my parent’s house! (I don’t even live with them!) Called my brother.. and called my supervisor at work. I was mortified. I called them back, and they said it has to do with court documents they need to have delivered. They advised me to call the litigation service which is called Bayview whose number is 1-844-338-0167. I called Bayview, and they told me that their client would like to either take me to court to have this settled, or I can settle it right now by making a payment so this can be settled as “paid in full”. When I asked who their client is, they said “Riverside”… just Riverside. Not Riverside Loans or Riverside Bank… just Riverside. I told them I had no idea who Riverside is and asked for a number. Bayview said they can’t provide me with their client’s information. So I told them, fine.. have the documents delivered to me then. I’d like to see them. The Bayview person then started asking me lots of questions such as: “If you didn’t open up a payday loan, how does our client know your mother’s phone number? How do they have your BofA account number? How do they have your work number and social?” The scary thing is… they did have all of that information! And they have been calling my relatives. Long story short, I didn’t give her any information. I just asked that the documents be sent to me. She told me that when the documents get sent to me, I need to be prepared to go to court on the assigned date and to make sure that I can cover all the fees PLUS the settlement. I know they can be calling my bluff, but I just want to be prepared as possible. My bank account they are referring to has been closed years ago… I now have a different account number. I don’t know how to prepare or what to prepare if I had to go to court. I also want them to stop calling my family and my work! How do I explicitly say that if they are not a debt collector and supposedly a locator service? And how do I go about asking Bayside for Riverside’s information if they won’t give it me because they are “protecting their client”? This is such a nightmare. I don’t know what to do or where to start.
  5. Well they just called my work.. AGAIN... even though I originally asked them not to. They called to follow up to see if I was able to get my bank to write a statement that my account was closed due to fraud. And to remind me that it may not even be approved without a police report since all my information seems to be valid. They did reiterate they are collecting for SSM Group. And their company is called BOC. Address is PO Box 771 Hamburg, NY 14075. Does anyone know these companies? Well now that I have their official address. Should I send them a DV letter through mail or fax it? I'd hate to fax it because it would be coming from my work fax.
  6. They gave me a fax number to fax a police report (if I got one) and a note from bofa (if I got one). I still have the number they also called me from. I know to send letters certified mail so should I actually call them back and ask for a mailing address? Or should I use the fax number they provided? Anyway, thank you for your response. I'm usually able to handle companies who I kniow I've had a debt from, but this is different since I am drawing a blank... and it was a bit scary since they had all my iinformation and my work number.
  7. Firstly, I’ve been following this site for a long time and everyone has helped TREMENDOUSLY! So I am very grateful for that. My question today is more about payday loans. A few years ago (2011), I got myself into a little trouble with PDLs. Long story short, I paid it all back with extreme difficulty. I’ll be honest, there may have been one or two which I don’t remember opening up. At the time, one of them did contact me and because I was so engulfed in just trying to pay it all back… I settled with the PDL company. I then closed my bank accounts and started a new life without PDLs. Or so I thought... Today, I got a phone call AT MY WORK NUMBER (which I am pretty upset about) from a company called BOC (apparently that doesn’t stand for anything). They said they're trying to collect a debt for an internet loan I supposedly opened with a company called SSM Group LLC in 2011 for $300. I have no idea who that company is. I explained to them I don’t know who they are… I didn’t open up this loan… etc. And I told them I closed my bank account due to fraud. (They said they tried to withdraw money from account today.. even recited the last 4 digits… but it didn’t go through). The lady went on to ask me if I didn’t open the loan, why do they have my work contact information (which they did), the timeliness of how I got paid, ,my bank info, etc. She said that I should send fax them a notification from my bank explaining that my account was closed due to fraud in order to stop collection. But she doesn’t think it would get approved and if I really do feel like I didn’t open this loan, I should file a police report. I’m not sure what to do now. I live in CA Does anyone have any advice on what I should do? I thought my nightmare was over, but I guess not! I really appreciate it!
  8. Thank you for your responses! I have another problem that just arose this morning! You all have been so knowledgeable so I'm hoping you can help me. Yesterday I received a collection notice from Jefferson Capital for a really old credit card that I had a loooong time ago. It fell off my credit report, and it's been a REALLY long time since I've seen anything about it- years! So yesterday I received a collection notice asking me to settle the debt or pay it off! I'm not quite sure what to do here. Do you think they got a hold of my address because I've been recently looking up credit reports actively? Also, do I go through the whole process- request debt validation, etc- when it's not even showing up on my credit report? Now, i'm pretty scared! ANy help would be appreciated!
  9. Thank you for your response! I read about how installment loans opened against your savings account can help with credit. How easy is it to do? Would Bofa be able to help me with something like that or is that a type of thing (due to my credit scores) I'd have to contact a credit union for? (I am not part of a credit union, but my work is affiliated with one). As we speak, my significant other is adding me as an authorized user on his bank of america unsecured credit card. I always thought about being an authorized user, but wasn't sure if my credit would get checked or if being an authorized user would hurt in any way. This card is used VERY responsibly, low utilization and paid monthly on a timely basis.
  10. 1.) I was looking at scores from Equifax, Experian, and Transunion- all separate 2.) Do secured cards really hurt FICO scores? Even the ones that don't report as secured? 3.) Yes, I bank online with BofA and it's direct deposited to both checking accounts- my own and my significant other's. I was eyeing their cash rewards secured card online.
  11. Now I'm confused. I've always had a checking and savings account. I actually have 2 checking accounts! One for myself and one with me and my significant other. Both have savings account tied to them, and I utilize debit cards for both accounts. (This is with Bofa.. which is why I'm thinkning bofa could hopefully be lenient with me regarding getting a secured credit card). How does using a debit card help rebuild with FICO? I know it definitely doesn't help with credit scores because that's all I use, really- debit cards- and as you know, my scores are horrible! I appreciate any insight on this topic because I had no idea! I'm grateful for any helpful knowledge! I am not eligible for an unsecured card- and I'm not eligible for a lot of things such as renting an apt, applying for a car loan, etc. What I'm really aiming for is to be able to raise my credit scores so I can breathe a little easier. And so I don't have to rely on my siginificant other to co-sign for me if we're renting a home or anything like that. From my original post, you can see that I don't have any revolving credit on my credit reports. And the there are only 2 things on my credit report- my education loan and those Finex accounts. I believe I need some sort of revolving credit to at least bring my scores up a little. But because I don't qualify for any, I feel like the only thing I can do is apply for a secured card. I'd also like advice on something, if you don't mind. My scores are in the below 500's. Is this because of the Finex accounts? Or the delinquincies on my education loan? I can't seem to remove the delinquincies on the education loan or the Finex accounts (until they get dropped off or something miraculous happens)... so without a secured card, I'm pretty much stuck on how to improve my credit life.
  12. Thank you both @willingtocope and @ A Brice Consult for your responses! I live in California, and I believe the SOL here is 4 years? The listings from Finex Group began in 3/2009 and and 6/2009. So this basically means, I can still get sued even though I past the SOL... and if I do, I should show up in court anyway, hope that the court agrees the SOL has run... so Finex doesn't get a judgement against me. I tried contacting the city and they're no help at all... especially since I paid my fines and registration to the car. I guess you're right, they're charging me to store the car... but I really do think the car has been disposed. It's been 5 years since! I doubt they have the car. I'm scared to contact the towing company to work something out because I haven't gotten any notices or calls from them lately, and I feel like if I contact them... it's all going to begin- the calls/ notices/ etc. I don't have the money to pay the entire balance up front. I guess I could either: 1.) Contact a lawyer to help me??? 2.) Wait until this drops? << Is that even possible? Will it even drop?
  13. Thanks for your response @Corvetteman! I was already denied by Capital One for insufficent income which I was really surprised by because I could definitely support a secured card. How do that measure insufficient income, anyway? I am going to check with a credit union because my work is part of one. I'm a little embarrassed, but I want to go in and just be honest with them from the start. Let them know that I would need to build credit and I'm hoping they could help me, despite my current credit scores. Do you think that would work? Open Sky would be my last resort because I do want a secured card that will eventually become nonsecured.
  14. Rent to store the car? Yeah, I figured that.. but it's been since March 2009- almost 5 years ago! I'm sure the car is long gone and disposed, don't you thihnk? So I'm not sure why the charges keep increasing. And thanks for the lawyer tip! I'll definitely contact one to see what I can do. Because other than my school loans- which you said I can't remove my delinquencies anyway, even if I'm paying on a timely basis now... and it wouldn't matter anyway since it's a school loan- the Finex group is all I have on my credit report. Speaking of my school loans, there's really nothing I can do about removing the delinquencies reported on my CR? And I didn't even realize that A Brice Consult is looking for business... duh, the name says it all. :0
  15. Thank you, A Brice Consult! I know, I'm being hard on myself... I just need to be motivated and positive that things will turn around for the better. Currently, I only have my education loan (which I listed above on my original posting) and Finex Group- which is the collection agency for JM Towing. Finex has split my account into 2 listings (as I noted above). Finex group is only showing up in my Transunion Report and not my others. I guess the first thing I have to do is dispute the Finex listings with Transunion.. then see where I go from there. If that doesn't work, I'm thinking the best thing I can do is just wait it out because of SOL, correct? And not contact Finex at all? I'll try to take @willingtocope's advice and contact the city, but I went ahead and paid the tickets. At the time, I just didn't have the money to get the car out of the towing place. I guess once it's been in there for awhile, it becomes their property? I'm not sure... or sold to auction? Whatever the deal is, I took care of my end with city so I wouldn't have that on my record. The car is a different story. I really don't even know why they keep increasing my charges. I'm scared to contact them because I don't want to open a can of worms that's going to make things a bigger deal than they are. So to rebuild: - I will try with bofa and see what they say. I just heard that if I can't get a Cap One SECURED card, I won't get one with bofa (how embarassing!) - My work has a credit union which I can also try I really appreciate everyone's help!
  16. Also, do I need to join a credit union? I have bank of america. Wasn't sure if I should try a secured card with them. But I hard Capital One is easier to get than BofA.
  17. I am so happy and thankful you replied! 1.) Ok- got it! Don't hang my head over poor credit scores from the 3 bureaus. 2.) I don't have any credit transactions. The one and only one I had got dropped off my credit report a few months ago because that went into collections. Now it's gone. I thought my lates and delinquencies on my student loan is what was causing everything to go downhill. 3.) My car was towed by a company called JM Towing so I don't know if the city can do anything about it. I wanted to validate the debt with the credit bureaus first to see where that leads me. But from what I've been reading, I should NOT try to contact Finex and talk about a payment plan, correct? Due to SOL? I definitely can't pay the entire sum in one payment. I would have to pay in installments. All I do know is that I need to rebuild my credit. I'd like to be secure with myself that I at least have good enough credit to rent my own place (and not have to rely on a co-signer which I am doing right now), or get a car loan if anything were to happen to my car right now, or buy a home someday. I just want to raise my score and after being denied a secured credit card, I didn't know what other options I had.
  18. Hello everyone, Due to many life factors, I ignored my credit for YEARS! It was a stupid mistake that I regret. Now, I really, really want to rebuild! My poor credit score makes me anxious, worried, scared... I feel like I've built this hole that I can't get out of by myself. I'm on the verge of contacting a company that can help me rebuild my credit or provide me with personal advice. But before I do that, I wanted to double check with this forum first because on a few occasions, this forum has helped me with specific questions which I am very grateful for. I hope I can help myself before I contact any company. Here's my situation... any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't know what info I should provide, but here is what I think is important. Credit score on Equifax: 487 (so shameful!) Credit score on Experian: 632 (which is weird because on my Equifax report, it shows my Experian credit score as 486) Credit Score on Transunion: 464 No revolving accounts 2 credit inquiries (which are valid) Installment accounts: Dept of EDA/Aspire Resource (my student loan account)Currently open and current BUT!!! I did have delinquencies reported in 2013 because like an idiot, I decided to ignore it because I couldn’t pay it. (Says was past due 180 days or more)AS OF NOW: I have a monthly payment plan agreed upon (which I will adhere to), but on Equifax and Transunion, my account status states: Late over 120 daysQuestion: Is there a way that I can get the delinquencies removed from my credit statement? Will Aspire Resources agree to having them removed now that I have a monthly payment plan agreed upon 2.) KSA Servicing (which is the same student loan account as above. It originated here, but got transferred to Aspire because US Dept of Education switched from KSA to Aspire)On my credit report, it is showing my delinquencies because I was delinquent when KSA had my student loanQuestion: Do you think KSA would remove these delinquencies from my credit report now that I have a plan going with Aspire? Would they even care? I’m not sure how to go about this one! 3.) US Dept,of EducationSame question goes as above for KSA. US Dept of Education had my student loan first. It shows my delinquencies! Other Accounts: Finex Group (Listed twice on my Transunion credit report as separate accounts but not on Equifax or Experiean- why is that?) My car got towed in 2009 due to unpaid tickets and registration. I couldn’t pay to get the car removed from impound… I think this is the account that is hurting me!Date opened: 3/2009 (1st listing) 6/2009 (2nd listing)Balance amount is $2867 AND $3980Account status for both listing: CollectionsThe balance seems to be going up and up every time I check my credit report! This began as less than $1500, I think. I don't know how my balance got to be so large?! Question: Should I wait 2 more years for this account to drop off my credit report? If I wait, what I can do about this account until then? More questions- sorry, my head is seriously spinning! After trying to clean up my account with Aspire Resources and agree to a monthly plan, I looked at everything else and thought to myself, there isn’t much more I can do. But now I need to rebuild! I decided to try a secured credit card and got denied by Capital One due to insufficient income. What criteria did they decide that on? I can surely pay for the $300 deposit and add to it. After getting denied for a secured credit card, I got really upset at myself. I feel like there’s nothing else I can do. Everything I look up about rebuilding credit states getting a secured credit card would be a good option, but I can't even get that. I think my income is sufficient enough to pay for a secured credit card... I'm the one who's putting the money into it, right? Any other suggestions on how I can rebuild? Have I really hit rock bottom that I need to employ a credit help agency? I really appreciate your help.
  19. Thank you for your responses! Yes, the impound was 4 years ago in 2009. So just to clarify: 1.) dispute with the CRA 2.) But DO NOT pay the collection agency anything because of SOL It seems like this collection agency- Finex- has been accruing interest though. It started off waaaay smaller than me owing $6,000. I just don't know where my old statements are to prove it. If I leave it on my report, that means it's going to show for the next 3 years... but I guess that's ok. But what about the interest that keeps accruing? I'm afraid I'll be owing more in the long run.
  20. The value wasn't that much... I think $2000 at the most. It got impounded due to unpaid tickets and expired registration. REALLY rough time after getting laid off, and I live in a metropolitan area where cops give you tickets the second you're over the parking limit. That was 4 years ago. I just want this off my credit report and handled!
  21. Hello! I've read through this website and read through tons of forum posts, and I just want to clarify my situation with everyone to make absolute sure that I'm taking the best steps to fix things. About me: I had a car towed a few years ago which I never took out of impound due to lack of money so i incurred charges and it got sent to collections. It is now with Finex Group (if anyone knows anything about this company, information would be great!). This is REALLY affecting my score. I owe a lot of money ($6,000) on it because interest keeps accruing, and I can't use the pay for delete method. Therefore, I figured my only option is to settle the payment? Am I correct? Would this be the process?? I'm not sure how to go about that. 1.) Validate with credit bureaus 2.) Then validate with Finex if credit bureaus do validate *** Then I don't know what to do from here!!! Should I negotiate a monthly payment plan? But would that help my credit in any way? Or keep it worse? Any help would be appreciated!!
  22. Oh wow, Willingtocope, I didn't think freecreditreport.com was a scam!! So I guess your best advice would be to order my reports from annualcreditreport.com, correct? I already purchased my free credit report from them last June, but I wanted to purchase an updated version becuase I think there have been some significant changes from them. Is annualcreditreport.com pretty accurate? I thought it was VERY strange that I had 2 Experian reports in front of me and the Experian reports didn't match up.
