    Just a Hii

    Welcome Paulaa!!!
  2. Good luck with your credit repair. I had it done by a company and it worked out real well for me within 3 months.
  3. Yeah, I agree with Harry. You will want to purchase your credit report so you won't have to wait half an extra month for replies. And I would get a couple cards to start establishing credit. Capital One is really good at approving people after bk's or people who had their credit damaged. I got approved in under a year for an unsecured card after my bk. Hope that helps!
  4. Credit repair does work even though it has a bad taste in most people's mouths. I interviewed a bunch of companies before I hired one. They have managed to knock off my BK from TransUnion and taken off multiple derogatory accounts in just 4 months working with them. There are a lot of shady credit repair companies, but if you dig deep enough, you will find legit ones. Thanks for the article!
  5. Parents using their children's credit happens more often than you think. But since you have the same name as your father, I would agree with BV80 that it may have been a mistake. Definitely look into this before accusing your father.
  6. If i was you, I would do everything I could to remove the 3 medical bills off your credit file. That will help a bunch. And I would apply for a card or two (capital one is pretty awesome at approving people trying to rebuild their credit). Good luck!
  7. By law no, minor can be in a contract until they are 18 or become emancipated. If she can show the credit bureaus all the different accounts that were opened before she was 18, there shouldn't even be a problem with them getting removed. If the credit bureaus won't budge, then have her file a police report.
  8. I would negotiate with them and explain your situation. Some of the people you end up talking to will do what they can to help. It never hurts to ask. If you don't ask, you don't get.
  9. I'm trying to fix my credit as we speak. That's a really informative post. Thanks!
  10. Really? Who would do that? People are seriously out of their minds.
  11. Yes, after your initial credit pull, the rest are soft pulls because the system sees you are running your credit by similar vendors.
  12. Hey everyone, I was listening to Tim Ferris' podcast today and it was on negotiation. It was a great podcast and I recommend it highly to negotiate your rates for not only your credit card rates - but for cable, rent, cell phone bill, etc. After listening, I immediately called Cap 1 and said that I have been a member for 8 years and I have never missed a payment. Can you please help me out and lower my rate on my card? Just a simple statement and asking politely got my rate reduced from 16% to 8%. That's pretty awesome and it took less than 10 min. I am going to start doing this for everything. I was just thinking, the worst thing that could happen is them saying "no." Might as well try and see what happens.
  13. I agree that you shouldn't do a BK. You can't forgive your school loans and that's 1/2 your debt. So you will be basically declaring BK for $20k. You should definitely not hire a debt consolidation company. I have never heard of an honest one that's looking out for the consumer. You can totally do it yourself. Just hit up your creditors saying you can pay only a small % of the debt and negotiate with them from there. And let them know that you may file for BK if they can't lower your debt- which will give you more leverage in negotiation since they will get $0 if you declare. Going with a secured card is a good idea. Need to start somewhere and that's probably your best bet to rebuild. Good luck!
  14. Hi Killer, I actually declared BK and Capital One was one of the creditors that was included. About a year after I was discharged, I applied again and was approved right away. I didn't have that high of a balance, I think it was $1,500, so maybe they didn't think it was a big deal. But I don't know.
