  1. What I think often happens is LVNV will pay plaintiffs a pretty good sum to settle out of court and sign a non-disclosure agreement. I know that if they paid me several grand to shut up and go away, I'd do it. Everybody has their price.
  2. It says "no new applicants," not necessarily "no more upgrades"... but I agree that upgrades are less likely than ever before.
  3. USAA has opened many of its services to all, including those without family military affiliation. You do not need military affiliation in order to get the credit monitoring service. Click on "Other Individuals" at the link below: https://www.usaa.com/inet/ent_utils/McStaticPages?key=why_choose_usaa_eligibility_main&wa_ref=wcu_main_is_usaa_for_you
  4. Yeah, Unique is a tough nut to crack. They will not do a PFD and will usually verify disputes, especially if the debt is unpaid. Some have gotten them to delete a year after payment. My girlfriend had to deal with a library collection they were handling. She paid the library directly about a year ago, and Unique updated to "paid collection." I've told her to dispute in a couple months to see what happens.
  5. Maybe you're joking, or maybe I could have worded it better: the CLI was $200. My limit was $2700 and is now $2900.
  6. Requested and received a $500 CLI on my credit union Visa earlier this week ($1500 -> $2000), now that it's at the 6-month mark. It cost me a hard pull, though, so I won't be doing that again for at least a year.
  7. Nope - I only make electronic payments to Merrick, yet they still hold them whenever they feel like it. I blame their general sleaziness.
  8. I'm aware of all of this. However, Merrick remains the only card issuer of mine that has ever chosen to exercise that option. I can understand it if the payment amount is over $1,000, or if I have had payments rejected in the past. Neither of these things were true the last time they held back my available credit a month ago.
  9. I agree - I think we'll see another extension, but it might be the last one. Even with all the stimulus/recovery spending, this won't go on forever. An extension would be good for me, because if I end up buying my current rental from my recently deceased landlady's estate, I'm not sure we'll be under contract by 4/30.
  10. Again, you only need to be under contract by April 30th to get the tax credit - not closed.
  11. Orchard waived my $59 annual fee permanently last year when I asked. Bank of America refused to waive my $29 annual fee a few weeks ago. "Well, that is what you agreed to when you signed up." I fired them. An $800 CL with no rewards program and no prospect for future CLIs doesn't do me much good when I have other cards with four-digit limits and no AF.
  12. Latest news I received from Target: REDcard rate jack from 22.99% to 25.24%, effective 1/27/2010. And to think this card was at 19.99% a year ago...
  13. Orchard gave me a bump from $500 to $700 with my latest statement... wasn't expecting that at all.
  14. My CLIs have occurred every 5-6 months in $300 intervals, with util over 50% for most of the last year. The last CLI was in July, so I'll see what happens in the next couple of months. I expect $0-200.
  15. What's your utilization been on that card? Mine has been pretty high but is being reduced, and I was concerned they were only giving increases to those with high(er) util.
  16. Yeah, I agree that it's all bogus, but this is what I expect from a subprime lender. Unfortunately, Hooters MC is the largest CL I have on a major-label card. All I can do is pay it down and keep working on my scores in the hopes of getting out of subprime hell. I've already moved most of my monthly activity to a credit union Visa I obtained in July.
  17. I also got the "unrelated to your account status or credit history" line. (My increase was from 23.2% to 25.7%, by the way. Never had an AF, still don't.)
  18. I just happened to check the Web site and saw the increase. My letter came in the mail the next day. This increase happened roughly halfway through my current billing cycle.
  19. Merrick is increasing the current and floor APR on my Hooters card to 25.7% for purchases, 30.7% for cash advances.
  20. I used my Jared card for the first time in July to buy a relatively inexpensive watch. 3 months no interest, now paid in full. This week, Kay/Jared/JBR all sent me letters saying my limits had been increased from $2,000 to $3,200. I logged into my Target account a few minutes ago and I'm up from $500 to $1,000. (Still no Visa upgrade as far as I can tell.) And Bank of America... well, on October 31 they cancelled and reissued my card because of an unspecified "security breach" at a merchant. I received and activated the new card today. I also got an alert from CCT today with new "potentially negative information" in the form of a Bank of America account listed "CARD REPORTED LOST/STOLEN". So now it's listed twice - once under the old number (lost/stolen), once under the new number (with the original opening date and "paid as agreed"). When I called customer service, they transferred me to the credit department. The analyst did his best to explain the situation but really didn't make me feel any better. He reviewed my report and asked me the same questions I've always answered for the online CLI request, as if he was going to make me feel better by giving me a CLI. Then he saw the two collections, asked me about them, and it was Game Over. I think this is basically going to be the end of my relationship with BofA. I had a secured card with them for 9 months, and in the 18 months since it went unsecured, they have raised my limit from $500 to a paltry $800. I really don't need them or Orchard anymore, and they will soon be fired. Otherwise, it's been a good week for CLIs.
  21. I also think it depends on what state you live in. I know other members have stated that different reports have been pulled for some of the same cards I've applied for.
  22. I've had a $500 REDcard for almost two years now... got the bump from $200 to $500, but nothing more. I use it a couple times a month and usually carry a balance (well under $200), but no love.
