  1. i have about a half a dozen credit cards ranging in limits betwwen 1k and 7k. My wife lost her job and for the last six months we have been barely scraping by. Its reached a point now that Im not going to be able to pay even the minimum payments. Nothing is 30 days late (yet). What should I do?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Upfront Rewards $7k Cap One 1k Chase 2k Orchard 1k Citibank 2k Dell 1500
  2. I just got off the phone and closed mine too.. Scam "artists" if you ask me.
  3. I just got a letter from orchard (HSBC). They are raising my interest rate from 18% to 27.99%.... I have had this card for three years and have had no late payments on this or any other account.. The letter states that "These changes are based on a careful review of your credit history with us and with others".. What am I missing here? No lates, no colllections, no leins, nothing. Has anyone else had this?
  4. ok first I appreciate everyones help. Not to sound like a complete idiot, but was is overshadowing, and does that constitute a violation of the FDCPA or the FCRA?
  5. Ill try to make this as short as possible... About a month ago I DV'd a collection agency( CCS, Creditors Collection Services). Today I recieved a letter from them, with no validation at all. the letter reads: Please note. you are hereby placed on a 72 Hour notice of our intent to take collection action against you as allowed under state and federal law. Your credit bureau may be notified of any failure to pay. This is an attempt to collect a debt by a debt collector and any information obtained will be used for that purpose. ENCLOSE PAYMENT IN FULL IMMEDIATELY My questions are: How can they do this without validating? They have called here at least twice after recieving the C/D letter is that legal? I also dont think they are licensed in WV as a debt collector.. I know this because there is web site where one can lookup business license in Wv. What should my next step be??
  6. what about the letter where the name was changed? and this is what the CA sent them: RE: Jennifer XXXXXXX Our office has received a copy of the complaint from JULIE XXXXX. We have reviewed the file and have been in full compliance with the FDCPA. It is now our decision to close and return this account to th original creditor. All credit reporting will be deleted off her personal credit report and this account is now cancelled in our office (note the name change from Jennifer XXXXX to JulieXXXX).
  7. do you think writing back to the attorney general and telling them that it wasn't removed is a good idea?
  8. I think it is very odd that they changed the name on the letter.. I have to ask my self How can they verify anything if they cant even keep the name straight on one letter.
  9. Ive been figting this CA(National Service Bureau, aka Seattle Service Bureau) for over a year now, and this is where Im at. I DV'd them Twice, no responce Disputed though Credit bureau four times, verified everytime, and this is where it gets tricky. Every time I dispute it, it comes back verified with a different amount owed. The last time I disputed it came back verified and the duplicated the account so now I have two collections. Both accounts have the same account number, but different amounts owed. I contacted the OC and made payment arrangement through them (hospital bills) and the collection accounts were supposed to be taken off, but wasn't. Now it my understanding that changing the amount is illeagal so I contacted the state attorney general and gave them copies of my credit report that proves they changed the amount. here is what I got back from the attorney general office: Dear Ms XXXXX The attorney generals consumer protection division received the enclosed responce from the above named buisness that your complaint has been resolved. If you are not satisfied with this resolution, please advice our office in writing.. and this is what the CA sent them: RE: Jennifer XXXXXXX Our office has received a copy of the complaint from JULIE XXXXX. We have reviewed the file and have been in full compliance with the FDCPA. It is now our decision to close and return this account to th original creditor. All credit reporting will be deleted off her personal credit report and this account is now cancelled in our office (note the name change from Jennifer XXXXX to JulieXXXX). two days after I received these letters I was sent a copy of my credit report and It is still being listed on my report, and on the results of investigation section is reads: Please be advised summersville hospital sold this account to SSB formerly known as NSB. therefore this account will remain on file for 7 years from the date of last activity, even if your are making payments directly to the hospital. Ok so to sum up caught them breaking the law, turned them in to attorney general they told the attorney general that they would delete the account then they verify the account. what do you think I should do next??
  10. if I paid them, wouldnt they show back up on my credit report?
  11. I bought a house in august of last year(West Virginia). My closing lawyer said I had two judgements from cars that were repo'd almost 10 years ago. He said that as soon as the house was in my name both judgement would become leins on my property. My question is this: How long do the liens stay on? and what would be the best way to get them removed?. I would appreciate any help anyone can give
  12. Thank you to all the helpfull people on here that helped me remove six collection accounts, and two 30 day late payments. My fico score over went from 597 to 723 in just a little over two months, and allowed me to buy a new house with a great interest rate. If not for this site I could have never done it. So everyone out there working on your credit, be patient but persistant, it WILL pay off in the end. Once again thanks for everyones help.
  13. I have disputed a CA account in the amount of 121.00 and the Ca listed as disputed but...... then they added a second acount with the amount due as 144.00 and the original amount as 121.00. after disputing the first account it was deleted, and then they relisted the account with the amount due as 144.00. the thing is, all three of these accounts are actually the same account(found this out by contacting the OC.) So what they are doing is adding the accounts, and when I dispute they delete them and then change the dollar amount. What if anything can I do about this? They are also switching their names back and forth from National Service bureau to Seattle Service Bureau. They have the same address and phone number. I get the feeling they are going to jerk me around untill I finally have to sue them.
