  1. Probably September or October of '07. I'll dig thru my folders to see if I can find the details - I kept notes on each account I attacked, usually on the CRs or on any correspondence I recv'd from the creditors. I never received anything from Macy's, so I'm assuming the notes are buried in a stack of old CRs.
  2. VE, I had a 5 year old charge-off (approx. $385) with Macy's that was showing up on at least two of the three agencies. During my repair, I called customer service and offered to "make it right." I was hoping to get a do-able offer and settle for pennies on the dollar. The lady I spoke with politely explained that my account was closed, had been charged-off, but offered to re-open the account for no money from me! I was put on hold for a few minutes and she returned with a $750 credit line. I began using the card for $25-$30 purchases as soon as it arrived and I paid it online, in full, every month. After a few months, I upped my purchases and continued to PIF. Within 9 months or so, I logged on to PIF and saw that they had raised my limit to $1,500. It has since been converted to a Macy's Visa at $4,000. In this case, I was running late one morning and wasn't up to writing a letter. Instead, I gambled on "speaking" to a rep, as opposed to relying on some rep reading the recommended goodwill letter, although, GW letters did play a big part during my repair campaign. Cue the "Results May Vary" disclaimer... "MY" gamble paid off. You never know - these reps may want to hear a legitimate, humbled voice, now and then. A voice poised to pay penance for the dastardly deeds that we commit! They must surely be numb from reading mounds of canned letters, void of emotion or emphasis that highlight the content. If you do opt to write a letter, personalize it, re-write the phrases in your own words - make yours stand out from the others. It's not guaranteed to work, but, I wasn't expecting the favorable results I received either. In any case, Good Luck and continue to press on!
  3. I don't know if I'm an oldie; it's been a few years since I posted here. Mainly stop in to answer a few PM's with questions regarding my repair experience- hope it has helped the newbs. I eventually got ALL the negs off my reports. I've acquired a new home and kept my former home as an income property. I couldn't have done it without all the help, advice, and encouragement I received here! I reached the pinnacle I was climbing toward and slowly drifted away from the sites and monitoring programs that were a daily occurrence for a couple of years. One day, I looked up and there was nothing left for me to do... The journey was finished. The expandable folders full of dispute letters, certified mail receipts, CA responses, free credit reports and such, now sit in a closet - out of sight, but close at hand. as a reminder of how I got THERE and what it took to get HERE! BUT, before I take any credit for my credit repair success, I have to sincerely THANK all the true oldies, regulars, and hard-core CIC'ers who stuck around to help the rest of us! HOPE Y'ALL HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
  4. Howdy Amerikaner! Long time no see! More later! My wife simply disputed online and the old address was removed within 24 hrs... and it was on EXP! You never know so it's worth a shot!
  5. Several months ago, and just a month or two after my increase to $500, the Target clerk asked me if I wanted to upgrade to a Visa. I posted in another thread that I declined due to the line of customers behind me, one of which was a HOT little blonde whom I didn't want to be embarrassed in front of if I wasn't approved. I've since been back to the same store, gone through the same line, same clerk and have not been asked again... I used my card every month (Enviga Green Tea and FRS Healthy Energy drinks) and I PIF prior to the statement posting. I've tried leaving a small balance, near maxing out, PIF but to no avail. I, too, will be watching out in January for the Visa upgrade.
  6. I haven't been on here for several months. I guess that's a sign of better days. Many new cards and accounts since the last update, but I had to post that I recently acquired a $12,000 Chase Freedom Plus card and the ever-elusive (for me) American Express Starwoods Preferred Guest Card. Now, I actually get rewards, points and perks by using my cards. I'm not going to list all the new accounts cause they now seem like no big deal, although I can remember just a little over a year ago that they were not available to me. My better half has dramatically improved her scores by following some simple advice that I shared with her as I carried out my repair process. (No repairs needed - just padded her lines of credit) Stay with it folks - it can get better if you'll dedicate yourself and give it a chance.
  7. I pay everything that allows online. I prefer to pay on the account's website rather than use Bill Pay from my bank. My other half prefers to pay everything from the bank website. Neither of us has ever had a problem. When I get the confirmation page, I hit "Alt+ Prt Scrn" to capture the screen. I I open Microsoft Paint, I paste the screen onto a blank page, then crop the confirmation message and save it as a jpeg or bmp in "My Pictures" named by creditor and date of payment, ie; "Hooters PIF 12-10-08" This helps me check any of my accounts while I'm online since I have the saved images right here on my laptop.
  8. Same here! 4 EQ Inqs vaporized! Had "0" for awhile 'till DD's college loan apps hit... Now back up to "1" again.
  9. Need help with a Corel WordPerfect download. DL'd from Internet and see the files on my desktop but can't get the program to initate installation. ANYONE?
  10. Dayum that was a good song! Congrats to ya, lady! You just might have to change your name to "Not So Blu Tish"
  11. I don't want chelsea to go green, do you?
  12. Great Job 2K+1! And all this time I thought you were just here woofin' noise in the Off Topic Forums...
  13. I'm guessin a double-pronged attack is the best tactic... Pay on both and work away at both balances as you can.
  14. My college DD got $1500 Chase and $3000 Citi student cards. Annual income $650. Go to financeglobe.com and you can find a lot of the cards that are offered for students. Most have online apps. Chase and Citi gave us an instant approval response. My oldest DD, now out of college, has gradually increased to 15,000 and 18,000 on a BoFA and Chase that she got while in school, again with little to no income to report at the time she was approved. Look at these Student Cards for some options.
  15. Send it my way and I'll make sure you eventually qualify for your CLI. Just be sure to go online and set your account to auto pay first...
  16. I don't remember gettin a letter about the CLI; I do all my account management online and never open the statements. So, last nite the DW sez, "I did you a favor - I paid off your Capitol One card, so you wouldn't forget about it while you were out of town." Oh yeah - a whoppin 33.00 bucks! What she didn't know was that I had already PIF'd on the 19th! I just gotta cancel those paper statements! There's a new twist - they have money I DON'T even owe them yet!
  17. Thanks swirlgirl! I didn't think about a flat rate, and I didn't have any idea what the rate/minute was. I may be able to roughly estimate the rate from Islip based on the rate from LaGuardia. Thanks for the link too !
  18. I'll be in NYC next week and the DW will be joining me a few days later. Her flight arrives in Long Island in the late evening. I'll be in Manhattan w/o a rent car. We're thinkin maybe a cab ride (roughly 50 miles / 1.5 hours). She doesn't really want to mess with taking a shuttle or cab to the train station and then still have to figure out the next leg of the trip. My question is this; Approximately, what would a cab ride cost, from Islip Airport to Manhattan? Would an $80 - $100 limo service be practical, compared to a cab, for this trip? I'm basically just lookin for the safest, less hectic avenue of transportation for her at 9:00PM. Neither of us have been to NYC before so, I'm asking for suggestions or advice from anyone who might know. THANKS!
  19. CONGRATS MO!!! I guess I'm looking at March/April for my CLI! BTW, what was your opening CL?
  20. jls - Accept the card; The $3500 CL would probably be good for your utilization. Challenge yourself to do the right thing; use only the amount of credit that you know you can pay for later, or right away for that matter. Subscribe to their "xx cents per $100 of balance" account protection if you think you'll be carrying a large balance and fear that an unexpected life change could make it difficult for you to pay your monthly minimum. Again, challenge yourself to do the right thing; pay every account on time every month.
