  1. Hello, Bally's recently filed for Bankruptcy Protection last week and closed down the nearest location close to me. According to their contract I can end my installment contract if I live more than 25 miles away. I read everywhere that Bally's is terrible at breaking contracts and immediately refers your account to collection agencies. Has anyone ever cancelled an account with Bally's, and what's the best way to handle this to avoid Bally's from ruining my good credit. Thanks
  2. TU did the same thing to me. They explained to me that sometimes they delete a TL before the 7-year SOL if the CA or OC does not report any recent activity. However, if there is any activity, you'll probably have to wait for the account to reach the full 7-year period.
  3. Hey Forum, I posted this question on the wrong thread and did not get a response. I have read the posts regarding this situation and I wanted to get a more direct answer pretaining to my situiation. I have a PAID collection acount (Paid in Full 6 mo. ago) on my CR that has the following TL: Status: Collection account; type of account - Open; Type of loan- Factoring Company account. Settlement accepted on this account; Paid Collection. If I understand right, some posts suggest that it is illegal for collection companies to report accounts as OPEN? Is this right? I disputed the open status with CB and info came back verified. CB's response: The results are: This creditor has verified that this account has not been closed. What's my next step? Do I contact the CRA? If so, what do I write? Thanks. MS
  4. Hey Forum, I have a PAID collection acount on my CR that has the following TL: Status: Collection account; type of account - Open; Type of loan- Factoring Company account. Settlement accepted on this account; Paid Collection. I remember reading somewhere on this post that it is illegal for collection companies to report accounts as OPEN. More info: DOFD 5/2002 Paid six months ago as per court settlement. I disputed with CB and info came back verified. CB's response: The results are: This creditor has verified that this account has not been closed. Does anyone one know of any precedent? Or any suggestions on what to do next? Thanks MS
  5. Hey Forum, Yesterday, I was denied a student CC from my credit union with 1 derog on my EQ, EX CR. My scores are in the low 700's. I'm a student and I'll be applying for a student loan this Jan.. For one year I've battle Portfolio Recovery over a PAID debt. Scheduled to be removed in 5/09. I have disputed, sent a goodwill letter(never received a response, or sent to wrong person). Has anyone ever had any success with Portfolio? I'm out of options with CB's. The last time I disputed they placed a fraud alert against me. It was later dropped. I was thinking about sending another goodwill letter. Not sure of right person to address it to. Any suggestions, greatly appreciated. MS
  6. Hey Forum, For months I've received pre-approved CC offers in the mail. My FICO scores range from 715-725. I have two mastercards so I decided to apply for a VISA. I'm not working so I decided to apply for a student CC from my credit union. The Bank Representative looked over my application, checked my credit, commented on my great scores, and said sorry you're denied. Denied? How? They said I have 1 Derog on my record. I calmy pointed out to them that I have settled that account five years ago and that the account is nearly seven and a half years old. Scheduled to come off 2/09. I also stated to them that I was able to obtain other credit with no problem. There response: Those days are over. GEEZ! What ever happened to what Paulson said, that the banks are now lending money? I guess times are really bad. In case you're wondering, I've tried everything to get that derog off. Goodwill letters, disputes. Now, If I dispute with the CB's I get a fraud alert against me. (For whatever reason, Portfolio Recovery just won't bulge). Just my experience, MS
  7. Hi, Yes, your credit score usually takes a hit when student loans post. My student loans recently posted and my scores tanked 100 points! After a few months they will rise to respectable levels. According to FICO they look at this as new accounts and recent activity. MS
  8. Hey Forum, I need some advice on chosing a CC. I'm applying for a student Visa card. My FICO scores are in the low 700's. I have accounts with BOA and a credit union. Which is the best option? MS
  9. Hi Isislc, I was thinking about using Bill Me Later to purchase a very expensive video camera ($4,000.). I have pretty decent credit scores, 690, 706, 712 with 1 deliquency on EQ. They say all they need is your DOB and SS#. Seems too easy. I really could use this camera, and I don't want to get declined. Thanks for advice. MS
  10. What concerns me is that most of the post on other sites list similar tradelines. The only difference is that most people acknowledge owing/defaulting on a balance even though no balance is listed. Its a unique situation because all the SOL are very old. Do you think it was a computer glitch? MS
  11. Hi, I'm not sure if the balance is zero. My old girlfriend had me on this card. The TL list no balance. High credit: $1,184, DOL Payment is 1999. DOL Activity is 10/2008. This is all the info provided. I spoke with EQ and they say the TL is not negative. MS
  12. Hey Forum, Has anyone ever used Bill Me Later merchants to obtain financing on purchases? Who do they pull from? I'm in Florida. Thanks, MS
  13. Hey Forum, I've noticed on other sites that AMEX has posted old accounts on credit reports. They have begun listing high balances with low credit limits. Just recently, I have received a AMEX tradeline on my EQ CR. The information is not negative, actually my fico went up 30 points. The problem is that the high balance adds to my debt. Any clues as to what AMEX is up to? Or should wait and see. More info: account listed as closed 1997, updated 10/2008. I was a second cardholder on someone else's card. Thanks, MS
  14. Hello forum, I'm a adult going back to school. I'm a full-time student looking to purchase a used car for school. I'm looking for a cheap car from a reputable dealer. I need advice to deal with these dealers. I have a few questions: Do you need a job or proof of income? My credit is good. Credit scores around 715-735. Can I apply for a car loan without income? My car budget is $6,000. or less. What options do I have? Thanks,
  15. I will begin making payments on my account online. Is this a good idea? I believe I can select the loan and make a payment. Has anyone done this before?
