  1. The.book costs a whopping $2.99 and takes 30 minutes to read if you skip over the insurance stuff, which is not applicable in this case anyway. I think the book is worthwhile just to have all the info available in one place. But, whatever.

  2. Hey Bridget, Welcome! To answer your question and hopefully give you some peace of mind, I'll tell you based on personal experience, that the situation is nowhere near as bad as it appears at first blush. BUT, you need to get on this soon.

First thing, check with Amazon and get the Kindle book "How to Negotiate Your Hospital Bill and Apply For Financial Assistance" . If you don't have a Kindle, there's a free Amazon App to read the books on your computerI believe, you may have to hunt for it. It's a good book and it mirrors a book by Ralph Nader that he wrote years ago. Actually, buying a Kindle to get the book, if you should have to, would be very, very cost effective.

To put it in plain English, the price you are being billed is 3 or 4 times what an INSURER has contracted with the hospital to actually pay. In other words, it's a scam. Uninsured people are charged much more than the insurance companies pay for the same procedures. Read the book and negotiate this down.

Best of luck to you, and remember, 90 percent of the stuff we worry about NEVER happens. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

  3. What is your experience with Sharebuilder? I know it's a Capitol One company which is usually enough to make me look elsewhere, but I'd like to hear what your experience with them has been.

I'm thinking about getting back into stocks on a small scale. Never thought I'd say that after 2008-2009!  xWhipMex   Thanks!

  4. Appreciate the heads-up, willing. The number of scams people come with is amazing! An elderly lady I know had just gotten her first computer online when she got a call from "microsoft" asking for her login info, passwords, etc., and she gave it to them. I was stunned!

  5. May this be uploaded as a way to start 2015 off right on every forum's headboard? I think it is awesome!

A NACA member attorney now a goddess in my legal life, which is a boon to my personal & medical realms of life, instructed me to make the annual free requests to all (3) agencies, which was a snap on the *.gov site, I must say!

Within 10 days, all (3) of my 20+ pages each reports were here, in-hand, at zero cost! Love-Love-Love it!

Some may be in for a glorious surprise, others may see some opportunities for dispute (s), etc. No matter what the news learned from holding all three versions of your own in-hand, the final outcome can only be personal finance betterment, (as long as we resolve to make 2 015 an even better year, and, take the steps to make it so!).

    Onward! Upward! Forwardbound! Hurrah!

Another year is almost behind us. A new year, to make a new start, lies only a few more days away!

    Warmly,

Question: What if this is "lost" in the mail, like many of my packages are? Looks like someone will have all they need in one neat bundle.

  6. In essence, the Cyprus template of 2011 will be fully implemented in every major economy, and place bank depositors as the primary instrument of the next bailouts when the next crisis occurs...

Article sounds a little far fetched to me, but I've under-estimated the evil before. We'll know in a few days I guess! Anyone know more about this?

  8. If you really want to get your knickers in a knot, research the Grace Commission findings.

    From Wiki (emphasis mine):

The report said that one-third of all income taxes are consumed by waste and inefficiency in the federal government, and another one-third escapes collection owing to the underground economy. “With two thirds of everyone’s personal income taxes wasted or not collected, 100 percent of what is collected is absorbed solely by interest on the federal debt and by federal government contributions to transfer payments. In other words, all individual income tax revenues are gone before one nickel is spent on the services [that] taxpayers expect from their government."[4]

This was 20 years ago, it's only gotten worse.
  9. "Kafkaesque" is the best description I can think of!   What if your "friend" is on a "terrist" watch list?  You may be screwed and don't know it ....................................... yet.

NSA collects millions of e-mail address books globally By Barton Gellman and Ashkan Soltani, Published: October 14

The National Security Agency is harvesting hundreds of millions of contact lists from personal e-mail and instant messaging accounts around the world, many of them belonging to Americans, according to senior intelligence officials and top-secret documents provided by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.

The collection program, which has not been disclosed before, intercepts e-mail address books and “buddy lists” from instant messaging services as they move across global data links. Online services often transmit those contacts when a user logs on, composes a message, or synchronizes a computer or mobile device with information stored on remote servers.

Rather than targeting individual users, the NSA is gathering contact lists in large numbers that amount to a sizable fraction of the world’s e-mail and instant messaging accounts. Analysis of that data enables the agency to search for hidden connections and to map relationships within a much smaller universe of foreign intelligence targets.

During a single day last year, the NSA’s Special Source Operations branch collected 444,743 e-mail address books from Yahoo, 105,068 from Hotmail, 82,857 from Facebook, 33,697 from Gmail and 22,881 from unspecified other providers, according to an internal NSA PowerPoint presentation. Those figures, described as a typical daily intake in the document, correspond to a rate of more than 250 million a year.

Each day, the presentation said, the NSA collects contacts from an estimated 500,000 buddy lists on live-chat services as well as from the inbox displays of Web-based e-mail accounts.

  10. I need a new computer and Apple has "free financing" through Barkleycard. Has anyone had any experience with this offer? It would be nice to use somebody else's money, but life has taught me to be extremely skeptical of "free" anything!

All my "good accounts" are falling off and I need to add some. Thanks in advance for your help.

Link to offer, click Apply Now button to see the details and, no, I'm not trying to sell something. Just checking them out! LOL

  11. Two things I learned from the election: 1_ That it's possible to be re-elected to Congress while under indictment and a psych patient at the same time. 2_ The folks in Cali don't want to know what's in their food (Prop 37). I admit that it's probably better to not know, maybe ignorance is bliss, but people ought to have a choice.
