  5. The end of US hegemony may be more accurate, jq. I'm curious what you think will be the result if (when?) the USD is no longer the world reserve currency and we start buying yuan, or whatever, to do business or pay US debt owed to foreign countries? I am of the opinion that the primary reason we've been somewhat insulated is our ability to print endless amounts of money, with no backing except "the full faith and credit of the Federal Reserve", and most the rest of the world having to convert to USD to do business.
  6. That's true. Also, the Chinese are now the largest buyers of gold and are buying trillions less US debt (bonds). I've found Chinese acquisitions questionable since they gained control of the port in California and the Panama Canal in the '90s, not to mention their buying mineral and oil reserves all over the world. It makes sense from their standpoint, but basically, we're funding our own demise.

  8. Look at silver, it's going up quickly. Todays spot price is $39/oz, six months ago it was $25/oz or so. http://www.kitco.com/market/ http://www.kitco.com/charts/popup/ag0365nyb.html
  9. This is probably old news to you guys, but I missed it so thought I'd post. I'm shocked, although not surprised. Who would WANT this card? 13. "I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is now controlled by its system of credit. We are no longer a government by free opinion, no longer a government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men." -- Woodrow Wilson 1919
  14. I don't know who thought of this, but hmmm ... Dear Mr. President, Please find below my suggestion for fixingAmerica 's Economy. Instead of giving Billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan. You can call it the "Patriotic Retirement Plan ": There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations: 1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed. 2) They MUST buy a new American CAR . Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed. 3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed. It can't get any easier than that!! P.S.. If more money is needed, have all members in Congress pay their taxes... Mr. President, while you're at it, make Congress retire on Social Security and Medicare. I'll bet both programs would be fixed pronto!

  16. Yes, I would think. Maybe more pro bono in the beginning, then full time legal aid when finances allowed. IMHO, of course.
  17. You just stated my reason for not going to law school. I have always felt "everyman" needed protection through representation rather than more abuse and all the justice he could pay for. Good dream though, check out "The Who: Behind Blue Eyes" on youtube, if you're not familiar with it.
  18. A good article about another foreclosure scam and the comments are really good. I wish they would just legalize dueling or something. http://motherjones.com/politics/2010/07/david-stern-djsp-foreclosure-fannie-freddie How the federal housing agencies—and some of the biggest bailed-out banks—are helping shady lawyers make millions by pushing families out of their homes. — By Andy Kroll

  20. HaHa! Some things are worse than being shot!
  21. The old saying "Nobody ever raped a .38." probably applies here as well. I think the lady that tore a testicle off a would-be rapist, then grabbed the other one and made him call 911 or she would tear it off, had the right idea. Word would get around fairly quickly, I believe.
  22. I wouldn't say WON'T occur, just less likely to occur. We've all seen videos of frame-ups, beatings, or just plain murders of unarmed, and sometimes, unresisting individuals. Cause and effect? Blowback? All you're going to achieve, in the long run, by heavy handedness is resistance. It starts with passive resistance, escalates to ACTIVE resistance, then who knows. Respect is not merely given, it's earned and what we're seeing now is the destruction of the respect earned by generations police by a few bad "badge heavy" cops. I'd, personally, like to see a little less "Barney" and more "Andy" in law enforcement.

Good video on fixation with LeBron James, Lindsay Lohan, etc. What's really important?
  24. HA! HA! Wait a minute, listen to the Sgt.Maj,, 38 sec. into the video. "There's nobody that wanted this to happen any worse than Dep. Chris Biezy!" Hell of a spokesman there! It's a bad spot to be in, I think it could be handled without the laser though. Cop could have told her signing was not an admission of guilt, just proof that she had been notified of the charges, perhaps?
  25. I While it's true that a warrant is needed for surveillance, the misnamed "USA Patriot Act" reduced the FISA requirements, among other things, and made the government powers so broad, that there is basically no privacy for any of us. Unless you're a big bank, apparently. Here's wiki's report on what the act says, read titles II and III closely. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USA_PATRIOT_Act This sounds pretty innocuous until you search "patriot act compliance", not to mention there seems to be subjective enforcement of Title IV, but that's a different story. They admit the money laundering, jq! But the government that punishes us won't punish them! "Banks Financing Mexico Gangs Admitted in Wells Fargo Deal". I don't like government intrusion at all, my views are probably mirrored best in the Kentucky Resolution of 1798 and the Virginia Resolution of 1798. http://www.constitution.org/cons/kent1798.htm That's as close to original intent as you're likely to get, IMHO! But, be that as it may, if you are going to regulate, do it evenly. Laws will change when the big corporations are held to the same laws as we serfs and not before. The overwhelming majority of us are already there, while the banks get a "walk", that's my point! I see it as a possible revenue grab (low probability) and a "feel good" political measure. Are all offshore "tax havens" subject to this or did they just pick out the Swiss? If it's just the Swiss that are being targeted, I would suspect a political move to take down Swiss banking, maybe in the manner of Iceland, perhaps? Just my opinion, of course.
