  1. I am a victim of identity theft, and had filed a report with local police, also the FTC. I requested Experian block a fraudulent account, and provided them with copies of the identity theft reports to support the request. They removed the fraudulent account within a few days of doing this. I had disputed the same fraudulent account with Equifax, and attached identity theft reports as supporting documentation. For 3 weeks after Experian blocked the account, the date reported on this same account was updated 4 times on Equifax. 11/11/2016 I requested Experian remove the fraudulent account due to identity theft 11/17/2016 Experian report showed account was deleted 12/1/2016, on Equifax fraudulent account/debt showed date reported 11/23/2016 12/3/2016, on Equifax fraudulent account/debt showed date reported 11/02/2016 So the date reported went backwards. How does this happen? 12/04/2016, on Equifax fraudulent account/debt showed date reported 12/03/2016 12/07/2016, on Equifax fraudulent account/debt showed date reported 12/06/2016 On 12/5/2016 I filed a complaint with CFPB against the creditor that reported the fraudulent account (which they have never responded to), and 12/7/2016 I called the creditor because I was quite angry at this point. After the account was removed from Experian, my score had gone up 69 points, and it was obviously damaging my Equifax score significantly. I had been denied credit due to this account specifically (denial reason said high utilization/over credit limit, and this account was reported as charge off for more than the credit limit that was reported for the account, I had no other accounts that this was relevant to). When I called this creditor the 1st time, they could not find the account in their system, and told me to call Equifax, so I did. Equifax then told me to call the creditor, so called them again. The creditor finally located the account, and admitted to me that they had received the police/identity theft report (Experian sent to them as a result of account being blocked) on 11/29/2016. So this account was updated 3 times on Equifax after they apparently received the identity theft/police report, and Experian had already blocked it as of 11/17/2016. Aside from all of this, the same creditor had reported conflicting information for the account between EX and EQ (payment dates, number of payments), so they obviously aren't concerned about complying with the law. What I'm trying to figure out is, who is at fault? And how does date reported go backwards in one case, unless it was done manually, then corrected the very next day? It almost looks like this was done intentionally. When the date went backwards, they corrected it on their own the next day, but I had not contacted them about it or bring to their attention. I know there are FCRA violations here, but I'm confused as to who is responsible for what. The police report totaled 73 pages for my case, and this has been a process from hell. I simply expected the creditors/credit bureaus to fulfill their obligations under the law, and that is really all identity theft victims have to rely on when recovering from the chaotic aftermath of this crime. Filing a police report only gives more credibility to a victim's claim, but they can't do much more than that. This is not about a lawsuit and getting paid, its about holding those accountable to the law that is there for these very reasons. Thank you in advance for any suggestions or advice.
  2. Creditors haven't responded to debt validation letter, but CB says debt is accurate I've twice written Calvarly Portfolio Services and Portfolio Recovery (two separate debts), asking for a debt validation. It's been 60 days since the first letter went out and 30 days since the 2nd. I did not receive a response to either letter. I disputed the debts, noting that the creditors did not respond to my request for validation. The credit bureaus came back and said their investigation revealed the debts are accurate. Dealing with another creditor, I was able to get it completely deleted from Transunion and Experian because they did not respond to a validation request. But, Equifax says the debt is accurate. What should my next step be? *OAN: I WAS able to get an old First Premier card completely deleted. YAY for that!*
  3. Hi, I disputed an entry on my credit reports approximately four years ago and the credit bureaus all removed the entry. After ordering my updated reports this week, I see that one of the credit bureaus added a new creditor's account to my report, shown in a delinquent status. I had never heard of the party, so I looked them up online. It looks like either the party I first disputed had a name change, or they were acquired by this new party. It's hard to be 100% certain thus far, but public corporate records on file with my state show a simple name change. My question pertains to to the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Section 611, which states: (ii) Notice to consumer. If any information that has been deleted from a consumer's file pursuant to subparagraph (A) is reinserted in the file, the consumer reporting agency shall notify the consumer of the reinsertion in writing not later than 5 business days after the reinsertion or, if authorized by the consumer for that purpose, by any other means available to the agency. I never received notice of a "reinsertion." My belief is this is a reinsertion, as it shows similar account details that I disputed 4 years ago, and an alleged creditor's new name. However, the credit bureau is likely looking at as a new party, therefore a new entry is appropriate in their eyes. How would you go about disputing this, as a "reinsertion" - or......?
  4. I have a question & I apologize in advance if it has already been addressed but I can't find it. I disputed information on my credit report TO THE CREDITOR as being inaccurate by certified mail return receipt requested. My understanding is that they have 30 days to answer my dispute. The 30 days came and passed with no answer. I sent copies of the letter, mail receipts etc to the CREDIT BUREAU. The Credit bureau answered me saying that they did an investigation and that there was updated information on my credit report. Nothing really changed. I was under the impression that Federal law stated that if the Creditor does not answer within the 30 day period, that the Credit bureau must remove the information. Am I wrong on this point? Thanks
  5. Hi, I'm been doing a little reading on this but I'm still unsure as to how to go about this, so I'm hoping someone here can help me. A few months ago, I pulled up my credit report and realized there were two entries on it from a certain telephone company. I disputed the entries with all three credit bureaus; they all came back verified. I then called the telephone company, and was told that these accounts were 'at a zero balance' and that they did not have any original records on them. I did get the representative's name, customer ID, and date/time of call (I take good notes! lol), so her statements should be verifiable. I'm planning on writing a 623 letter, but I'm unsure if I send it to the CA (as if they'd assist me anyhow) or if I send it to the legal department of the telephone company. From what I've read, I would send my 623 to the legal department of the telephone company, but I'm unsure of what to do. If I was supposed to, in fact, send the 623 to the legal department of the telephone company, what does the telephone company do next? Contact the CA's and tell them to remove the entry from my CR? How does all of this work? Thank you SO much for reading this I appreciate your help!
  6. Anyone have any idea how to dispute on Experian without buying a report? I just need to have it updated because a judgment was satisfied. I don't want to pay another 15 for this. With Transunion and Equifax I know how but can't figure this out. I know in the past I found a link to be able to do it, but can't figure it out now. Any help?
  7. Hi, I am disputing a medical collection on my credit reports. While I am disputing with the original creditor because of billing errors, I am also questioning how this is posted to my credit reports, and how the information may potentially be shared with others. My TransUnion report shows the collection listing in this fashion - Original Creditor: Med 1 02 - and then shows the medical provider's name and the type of physician. I am under the impression that the code Med 1 02 puts a privacy block on the information that follows per HIPAA regulations. Can anyone confirm this? The same listing on Experian uses no such code, but shows the medical facility, physician's practice, and type of physician, which leads me to believe they may be sharing some of my medical history with others. Is this a correct analysis? Thank you.
