  1. From researching this it involves a claim of identity theft. Right now in my area there are some police officers being prosecuted for providing false police reports to people. So obviously it works. I read in other places that a police report is not necessary. Only a statement on the credit report of identity theft and the CRA has to wipe the report. But it can come back. All I know is a long time ago when I defaulted on all my accounts at once, many of my creditors automatically put fraud alerts on my credit reports. Then I received letters from my them asking me to state that I was a victim of identity theft. I assumed this was so they could somehow recover their loss. It also asked for a police report. These credit sweep people don't seem to use a police report however. Does anyone know more about this method?
