  1. Hi All, So I just found out that I have a default judgment (was never served) for a debt I've already paid about 7 years ago. At this point, I'd like to quickest and easiest way to proceed as I have proof that I've already paid my debt through a collection agency (thank God). What I'd really like to do is avoid having to take off from work and going to court. With that being said should I? A. Contact the creditor in writing with the proof of my paid debt? B. Go to court to formally vacate the judgment and fight it? Thanks in advance!
  2. @BV80 @debtzapper Howdy.... I am back albeit briefly. Since I posted here last I have found out that my dad has terminal cancer. We are trying to make up for lots of lost time...and still won't get enough. That is nothing the board can help with. What I do need help with...I have two accounts with PRA that hit and I wasn't able to focus and fight them...and lost. I have paid them in full about 45 days ago and they are still on my CR as open but showing a $0 balance. Shouldn't they change to paid or closed or something? Thanks in advance for your help/concerns.
  3. Hi, I'm really hoping someone can help me because I'm extremely stressed, upset and at my wit's end. Back in 2000, someone backed into my car and I had to have it fixed. The repair man fixed it to perfection, but due to unfortunate financial circumstances, I bounced the check I gave him. He was nice enough to try to wait for me to fix things, but he eventually went to an attorney who obtained a judgment against me. Shortly thereafter, I contacted the repair man. He said all he wanted was the money owed for the fix (the original amount). I went and paid him in cash and he gave me a signed receipt and wrote "Paid in Full". I attempted to show this to the court and to the attorney, but it didnt seem to make a difference. Over the last 15 years, this attorney has tried numerous times to get money out of me. Last week, someone showed up at my house with papers stating that I needed to appear in court with bank statements, etc. I really don't understand this. The repairman (who hired this attorney) considers the debt paid, but yet I'm still being harassed for this money. What can I do? This whole situation has me in tears.
  4. Hello all, first post here at creditinfocenter. So I am getting really serious about credit repair and I want to attack the worst item on my reports, my only collection account. Okay so I was in school under CH33 GI bill and dropped most of my classes late one semester because of personal issues. This resulted in an "over-payment of benefits" to my Community College. The VA alerted me of the new debt of $563 and told me to pay it. I asked for a payment plan of $20/month and they told me that they could not accept less than $50/month. I did my best paid the $50 twice(May/June 2011) and then stopped because I did not have the money. I PIF the debt the following January(2012) as soon as I had the money but the damage had been done I now have a collection on my report. During the same time period late 11/ early 12 I had several CC accounts go 30 days and one go 60 days, however those aren't effecting me as much as the collection. I live in NY, so the worst case is I wait till May of 16 and get it deleted then with the NY 5 year rule. (DOFD may/11) I have been advised at another forum to write a GW letter to the VA and hope for the best. Reading in the same forum I have found one out of a half dozen actually get the VA to do the GW. What is the most effective course of action here? Does anybody know what direction I should head?
  5. I have one open collection left on my credit reports. It's something I don't really feel I owe but I don't have evidence of this so that's a story for another day. My question is, what is my best option if I can pay the full $800? It still has about 3.5 years before it will age off and I'd like to just take care of it. The DC is not being helpful and I don't want a "settled in full." I basically have admitted I owe it and it's very obvious that it's my debt. They refused to PFD for $500. Should I ask for a PFD or just tell them I'll pay the full amount if they report it as "Paid in Full?" Is there another option, like to have it show up as paid as agreed? Or is that not possible because it is the collector that is reporting it? Thanks!
