CitiCards and payment plan foul up.

I had posted before about 2 Citi credit cards (Visa and Mastercard). I fell behind on both accounts a few months ago due to losing my job, etc... During this time, I opted to go with a debt settlement program from homeland financial. I sent close account letters and power of attorney's to citi for both cards. Homeland only made settlement with one account and it wasn't really helping me. So I cancelled the program and I opted to pay myself and try to make this account current again. They put me on a payment plan for both my visa and mastercard. The visa is fine, but I am having problems with the mastercard. It was set up for 3 payments of $71 to make it current. I successfully made all three payments and they tell me it still isn't current. After getting the run around for about a week or so, I was told that it wasn't brought current because it is listed as being in settlement with homeland financial (which is the debt settlement program). I told them I had cancelled, and that I had faxed in the cancellation letter per their request. So now I have to call the Citi Recovery department and make payment arrangments with them? =(

Anyone had any dealings with them? I want them to remove that debt settlement coding from my account. Any advice or suggestions? I want to reage these accounts and try to get a second chance. I got a new job and i'm back on track. These 2 credit cards are killing my report because they are listed as closed.

Here is another person dealing with Homeland right now; Dark04

As far as your problem; you are on the right track - with following up with the creditor. Just go back to your bank and get copies of the checks showing what you have paid already and the dates as agreed that you paid, also make copy of the cancelation agreement as well as any other documentation and send a letter to the creidtor through - www.planetfeedback.com

See if you can't get higher up person to review your complete case and give you a fair shake on this matter.

Best of wishes, and keep us updated on your progress.

hi, I'm the one listed above as dealing with Homeland right now too! you're actually doing better than I am. so far (5 months into the program) they have settled not one account *sigh* I've called and asked several times and am told they are "negotiating" all the time with my creditors. maybe I misunderstood but I was under the impression they (Homeland) negotiated settlements with the creditors from payment number three (first two are all fee). either way....I've got a summons and I'm still waiting! keep me updated on how you do? Hi. Thanks for the reply. I wish I never signed up with homeland. They only took my first downpayment of $231 before I cancelled. I found out they weren't doing their job when the credit card company got in touch with me and explained that only one of my two accounts was in settlement and the other was about to be charged off. So that's when I took action and cancelled the program. Unfortunately, I couldn't get my $231 back. Now I have to try to see if I can remove the debt settlement mark on my credit card account so that I can reage it and get back on track. It's been pretty difficult so far because i get the run around. Tomorrow i'm going to call the Citigroup Recovery department to see what can be done. I'm also going to bring the proper documents to work tomorrow so I can fax it immediately to them. As for your case, I'm terribly sorry you even have to go through all of that. I hear Discover sues very easily. One of my co-workers is being sued by discover. I hope everything turns out well for you! If I only knew about this message board before I signed up for homeland. I wouldn't be in this mess.

yeah, I wish I had known about this site too! *sheesh* I'm in with Homeland way deeper than you are. just in fee's alone it's over $1000.00. Heck! I could've used that money for a settlement offer! My husband and I are trying real hard not to kick ourselves in the butt for enrolling with them, but they sure talk a good story don't they? but at this point, I'm going to wait and see if they supply this laywer like they said they would. Even one free consultation would be "something" back for all the money we've paid. Please let me know how you do with this. If things aren't handled to my husbands satisfaction we soon might be ex-Homeland clients too!! Dee

They are giving me the biggest run around regarding my mastercard account. They set up a post dated check payment plan to bring my account current. Well i made the payments and now they said it is not current. First they tell me they miscalculated the amount. Then they tell me that it didn't become current because it is labeled as "in settlement". I'm trying to take that damn settlement lable off so i can pay it current. I don't want to settle. And they keep transferring to different people and giving me different numbers and no one is able to help. I am so mad right now!!!!!!! I don't know what to do anymore!

  • 1 month later...

hi again! I don't know what state you're in but I filed complaints with the southern CA BBB and with the FTC and with the local Attorney Generals Office. (for me, that's OH) unless more of us (folks who got sucked in by Homeland) speak up they will continue to ruin other peoples credit too. I'm still waiting to hear from all three of the complaints I filed but if you need help finding the sites to file the complaints, feel free to e-mail me. I'm hoping to get my fee's back so I can pay the creditors they didn't bother to pay/negotiate with.
