This has been a very helpful website but my specific question has been a little differnt than the others in some way or another. Here is the question:

I have 5 collections on my CR that originated from a sickeness in 1997. Most of them have a date of 1998 when they wer turned over to a CA. One has a date of 2000, which is confusing since the procedure was done in 1997. Anyway, of the 5 one is marked paid and closed. The others are marked open and derogatory. Should I just let these stay on or should I still be trying to pay them. I recently pruchased a home and had no problem obtaining a low interst rate, My TU true credit score was 677. Please advise.

Have you tried to dispute these as not mine yet? You don't really want any collections on your report if you can help it. Here is a link on what to do first before you start to dispute, then on on how to dispute as not mine. http://debt-consolidation-credit-repair-service.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=100&highlight=credit+repair+101

Is the date you are seeing for 2000 showing as open date or is that the date that is used to determine the fall off date? If it is open date then that is just the date that the ca got the account. Also they are very old and should fall off in the next year or so. I bet if you use my advice in the link above you will get them off.
