I am in the process of fixing a friends credit report. She had signed up with a credit counseling service back in Dec.2002. When we pulled her reports, she has a few accounts that are being handled by that service. They are showing late and she swears they are the ones making the late payments. Do you think it is ok for me to dispute NEVER LATE? She doesn't want them to stop paying her bills for her due to her interest dropping. I told her to call the company and ask why her payments are late when they are responsible for making them. She also wanted ALOT of good tradelines deleted and I finally talked her out of doing so. ( all closed-0 balance- in good standing)

She was shocked to see her EX score was only 550 she thought she had good credit because all her bills are being paid. Goes to show, you NEVER know what is in that report. :-)= Liz

You can dispute it any way you want. The problem is, it probably was late courtesy of the credit counselor.

Ever see those commercials on tv?

"Well cut your payments in half!" - yeh, we'll stop paying until your creditor charges off the account, then we offer to settle. Look! We saved you hundreds!

"High interest rates got you frustrated?" - pay us the money you can't afford to give your creditors and we'll do what you can do for free (ie: ask the creditor to lower your APR, hardship programs, etc.)

"Leave your problems up to us!" - we'll have you so screwed up at the end of this, you won't have to worry about credit because you'll never get any again.

Doc, you should have seen her last night. When I pulled EX she has 15 accounts 10 of them BAD. She was ranting and raving, I thought she was going to have heart failure in front of me. She thinks I am a crazed woman with this credit repair. She is very negative and doesn't believe it can be fixed. I told her those companies are BAD but she wouldn't listen to me. I am 12 years younger then her and thinks I don't know what I am talking about. Until I brought out the proof, then she changed her tune. Liz

Liz, have your friend read this link:

Calawyer found the artical but I put together some important points which may help her out.

I am betting that her due date is not being met by the credit counseling company and that the interest rate has already been defaulted!

I wish that these companies could be shut down for good!!! They are no good, she should review her finances and see if she can negotiate with the creditors on her own & get that note of credit counseling off of her credit report.
