Currently on experian my DOB is incorrect and on my DW's report her DOB is incorrect and it only lists her married name..most bad items are in her maiden name. If I dispute now can they at all verify the accounts against the incorrect personal info?

Yes, they can verify the info especially if updated cards have been sent to your DW. They know her maiden name, and it's in their database.

I wouldn't risk a split file trying to dipute info that carries the same SSN with different last names. Sounds like an invitation to more hassle. Maybe someone here had luck going that route.

You can dispute your personal and have them update it on your file. Your DW will need to supply a copy of the marriage license for hers.

Providing copy of the marriage license will definitely result in the old name staying on the credit report. I know a few others here that could not get the maiden name removed - once they admitted that they where married and that the other name listed was their maiden name.

What they did was dispute that the maiden name was not theirs at all saying that is not my name and leave it at that.

Sometimes they will take it right off no problem, really just depends on who is reporting what, and how recent it was reported.

Is that because they were disputing info or the CRA just flat out refused? I ask only because I have a friend of mine who was recently married and she updated her info with all her creditors, driver's license, utilities, etc., already and wanted to do the same with her credit reports.

I think in these cases they were pre disputes; that the person slipped up in letting the CRA know that the other name was incorrect --- but made the mistake of finishing the sentence with ---- because I am married now.

Meaning that they eluded to this other name ultimately being a legit name at one time.

*** Important note, is that at the time of dispute the CRA will look at the relationships as to what pulled that other name in. If they see a relationship with a creditor, or have good reason to suspect it is related to a tradeline then they will say wait, we must verify ... then you are waiting 30 days while they contact that specific creditor to ask.

Other possible relationships might be a creditor that accessed credit report; but did not actually report data... then they may be more willing to let go. It is all about finding out who and exactly how the information was put there in the first place.

In the last example - they know that people pulling credit reports make clerical errors all the time, I do here from time to time, and this causes the alias names added to the credit reort.
