melee627
I am having serious problems with a charge-off from American Express. Two years ago I settled a charge-off for An Amex account as a stipulation to getting a mortgage. Well a year later Amex has now posted two different accounts pertaining to the same debt. The original was scheduled to drop-off 9/2003. Now there are two accounts, one scheduled to drop-off on 12/2003 and another is set for 12/2009. I challenged both of these items and Experian came back as both being verified. WHat actions can I take?
kb9tbq
You have to understand that when disputing you have to look at the credit reporting agencies like children and spell everything out for them, that an 8 year old could understand. Even draw them a picture of your dispute - ok.If you have past credit reports from experian (pull them out) make photo copies of all the account differences between the reports, high light the ones your are disputing and place numbers next to them 1.2.3..Then in letter write:1. American ExpressAccount # ....Open Date ....Balance .....This account is a duplicate with # 3 please remove.2. American ExpressAccount # ....Open Date ...Balance .....This account is a duplicate with # 3 please remove.Just like that and throw that back at them, they should get the hint then. curlytop
Just one more thing to look for... On my report, they are listed once as AMEX and once as American Express. If yours is like that too, you might have to explain to those very intelligent people over at the CRAs that they are the same company. (Duh!) melee627
What if Amex has assigned two different account numbers to the same original debt. Is that legal?
kb9tbq
If you know by all means the open date is the same; the high credit limit or balance is the same; last activity... anything of the sore.Sometimes even the account numbers are simular like:0123456 and 3456012 If you can match a portion of the account number up with the original then you have them on this matter for sure,
