Boobeans
Does it work if say my parents were to make me an authorized card user on one of their accounts?? Would I get all their years of good credit? I know they would do that for me but I don't want to waste their time if it does not work.
DocDon
It does work to some degree since you are an AU and not solely responsible for the debt, but if they have a great credit history, you have nothing but positive credit history to gain. Just make sure they ask that the entire credit history will be placed on your reports....

Wouldn't it look funny if they asked that, I'm sure they credit card company will know why they are asking for that.
kb9tbq
With AU accounts, you want the donar to have an account which shows:Credit Limit verses Low Balance kept; Long Established Credit History; & Perfect Payment History.Think what DocDon was refering to - is make sure everything shows up as suppose to be, an example is Capital One --- they only report the High Credit not the Credit Limit. So that is not a good donar card to go for! Also the person that is helping you here, needs to call their creditor to make sure.1. That this company has the policy to report AU Accounts,2. That they report for sure to all 3 major CRAs!I strongly recommend that should someone help you out in this matter, and add you as an authorized user to their personal account. Then it be only right that you not actually use this account for charging up. Just give them the extra card back, since you are benfiting from their good credit reportingThis way you can quickly get your score up and in range to aquire other credit of your own. - ok.Yes, Their full payment history of this account will show up on your credit report for sure, will be just like you had this account personally yourself since the time it was originally opened. megahurtzzz
My fiance added me to her credit card, and I received her past credit history, even though I had no part in it. Guess it depends on the company. Before that I couldnt get any credit anywhere. Now I got my credit card and two department store cards.
matt2402
Becoming an AU on my wifes card helped me a lot. Raised my scores from 20-30 points! This depends on a lot of things. The most important of which being the payment history on the card, its balance and % utilization. Also, your current credit "mix". If you're low on revolving accounts, it will probably help a lot.
