Hey kb9! I know that you work for a credit bureau, but I was wondering exactly what you do for them? You are very knowledgable and helpful to all. :D

Question? Do people generally have a statement included with their CR? And what would be some reasons for a statement be?

This is for future reference.

Well with my job - I am an office manager & pretty much run about all aspects of the business. We are a re-seller for Experian first & formost, cover about 20 counties setting up businesses with permissible purpose to pull credit reports on consuemrs also set them up to send in data on their customers.

Other services include Merged Reports for mortgage purpose - some of the banks use our additional service to investigate incorrect data on the credit reports and update them. This takes most of my time, investigating with various creditors - sometimes I can even initiate them fixing problems without the consumer having to dispute with the CRA. This is my favorit part, because we can have credit reports ready within 1 to 5 days on the most part. Instead of consumers having to wait 30 days for the CRA to update.

Other services include Flood Certificates; tennant screening; criminal background checks. And giving talks with the local businesses on our various products as well as the FCRA and in general helping their customers when they have problems.

My best area is fixing mixed credit files - can have these done in 1 to 3 days without the consumer having to dispute with the CRAs.

But I get stuck with other jobs I don't care for like sales, and billing, tech support on using our systems. Always some type of problem to fix for the various businesses making sure they are running smoothly.

Ok - on the consumer statements -

1. If you can't for all efforts get the tradeline removed or updated properly it is your right to add a statement explaining your side in the matter.

2. They say you can add a 100 words, but I suggest keeping it very simple straight and to the point. You don't want to come off having an attitude or go on a rant in general.

3. Always remember that once the tradeline has expired that the statement was addressing, you need to contact the CRA to remove it when no longer needed.

Examples of good use:

1. Victim of fraud - definately. Because I know with experian the Fraud Alert is only a add on product purchased by the businesses (and they are not likely to spend the extra money per each report) to know if you were a victim or not. So if you add a victim statement, this will go in the remarks section for all to see no matter what. Remember that these can stay on the report 7 years - you have to write back to have removed. Also this will lock you out of ordering credit reports online for your protection. The statement needing to be added / recommended that you send in copy of cell phone bill to add your phone number with statement like "please contact me before extending credit".

2. Father / Son files that keep getting mixed - Definately use.

Say "please verify all information contained in file, not to be mixed with father sharing the same name".

3. Divorce - Definately. These get pretty nasty, when they don't realize till too late that divorce decrees are not honored by creditors. Have to both write in to creditor with request for one or the other to be removed. Some times they won't - may require account to be paid first. Have seen cases where one ex-spouse would run up the credit cards / or file bankruptcy to distroy the other spouse on purpose!!! So once notifying a creditor that you wanted to be removed - and explaining the problem. That you were no longer reponsible after a certain point since the other one was given the responsibility in the divorce say: " As of this date I will no longer be responsible for charges made on this account, due to divorce decree". You may still have to take the other spouse to court though to re-coup damages if it gets out of hand. But new lenders seeing this may give consideration.

4. Medical problems like one I recently seen that really hate to see. They added this statement: Wife had triples - one with serious medical problems, at one point the insurance company did not cover all the expenses and while disputing the hospital turned over the accounts to collection. Not long after the insurance company agreed to cover the costs. But was still left with the collections showing up.

Things like this will really make a person with a heart stop and want to help if it is in their power to do so. In this case I called the consumer; and coached them on how to go back after the hospital to retract the collection agencies reportings.

There are plenty more examples - but I really do think these help - especially when personally dealing with lenders that you see in person. Not so much with credit card companies that just treat you like a number.

Education is the KEY to everything - for both sides business & consumers (figure that once they have a better understanding of areas they don't see on each others side) they can start relating on how their individual side affects the big picture over all.

With my position I SEE ALL THREE SIDES of the credit issue. Really neat being in the middle seeing all the peices fall together. Have the ability to see what others overlook quite often. Can say that I do love my job, very much. If I was to move on, it would only be to continue somewhere else in the same industry to do with credit reporting.

Like to believe that one person can make a difference, and alway have hope for improvements. Just don't know how to get in touch with the people that make the rules - to solicite the needed changes. That would really be great then.
