I don't know if this is true or not, but I recieved the following email forwarded to me this am. I am posting it here for your information. It doesn't seem like it could be true and I haven't attempted to verify the validity. Perhaps someone on the boards can do it.

"Your Credit: Personal Information goes public Starting July 1st, 2003, the four major credit bureaus in the US (Equifax, TransUnion, etc.) will be allowed to release credit info, mailing addresses, phone numbers, etc., to ANYONE who requests it. If you do not want to be included in this release of your personal information, you can call 1-888-567-8688. Once the message starts you will want option #2 (even though option #1 refers to this email, push #2) and then option #3.

Be sure to listen closely, the first option is only for a two-year period. Make sure you wait until they prompt for the third option, which opts you out FOREVER. You should receive their paperwork in the mail confirming the "opting out" in less than one week after making the call."

PASS THIS MESSAGE ON TO ALL IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK, FRIENDS AND FAMILY.

This is a scare; because the CRAs don't sell credit reports until the creditor has permissible purpose to pull.

This is regarding opt - out for the CRAs to stop selling name & address only for the purpose of soliciting you.

This is to get rid of all the pre-screen credit card junk mail that you get.

This is still a good service to use - recommended it having been a victim of ID Theft; the CRA will automatically opt-out if you call their fraud alert numbers.

Also if you have used multiple names in the past at multiple addresses; recommend that you send for all to be opt-out.

There are also additional opt-out services out there that can be found at www.ftc.gov

Another thing. They don't give/sell them your report. They place you in a catagory. So here comes XYZ Card and says I want to offer all of those in Catagory 2 our card (which SAY is 700-650 scores). So they pull a grouping of reports and look for that catagory...then off goes your name and address! HENCE a PRM on your report.
