FTC Debunks Credit File Privacy E-mail

The only thing wrong about this is that the CRAs don't just up and share everything about consumers.

They only provide name & address to companies wanting to solicite for business.

This is a good option, more people should make use of this to protect themselves from ID Theft resulting from stolen mail.

Opting out may not end all solicitations:

Even if you exercise all of these options for opting-out, you may continue to receive solicitations from local merchants, religious and charitable associations, professional and alumni associations, politicians and companies with whom you conduct business. To eliminate mail from these groups - as well as mail addressed to "occupant" or Resident" - write directly to each source.

Also side note: When opting out; be sure to include all prior addresses and prior names used. This way you go further to insure that you are not a victim of ID Theft later.
