KoryBricker Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 Anyone have any experience or know if it is possible to "cancel" a dispute with a CRA? I studpidly disputed 2 old accounts that I think were actually good. They were showing as being open which they aren't so I initially just disputed them as not mine before I learned that they may actually be good for me.One was an AMEX card with $0 balance, $0 high balance, no lates, opened 08/1992 last activity 08/1993The other was revolving account at a jewelery store with a $0 balance, $439 high balance, no lates, opened 11/92, last activity 12/1993It's only been about 10 days since I disputed them online (they were only being reported to Equifax so that's the only one I have to deal with) but now I'm hoping that there will be some way to cancel the dispute of not being mine or change it to disputing that they are closed (since they really are closed) because I'm afraid that since they are so old and $0 balance owed, the creditors are just going to ignore the dispute and let it go so the disputes will be successful and they will end up getting removed. So, any ideas if I can fix my screw up?
lisak72 Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 You could try calling the CRA and telling them that you got confused and after reviewing your past records, you actually did find proof of these accounts. Maybe they can give you some advice (good luck, heehee). But really, they are so old and the AMEX doesn't even show a high balance...it's like you never used it. The other is fairly low too, so it just depends on how badly you need those as positives. With last date of activity in 93, they'd be dropping off soon on their own.
KoryBricker Posted April 26, 2003 Author Report Posted April 26, 2003 Yeah, I figured I would try that. Thought I would just call and say I just realized I screwed up and meant to dispute it that the accounts were closed. I figure every positive point helps and I would hate to miss out on a better interest rate because I was just a few points under some set range. The AMEX sucks because I did use it quite a bit as the primary means to pay for stuff but paid off each month so I guess I didn't really have a month-to-month balance. The whole time I thought I was doing something good for my credit by charging eveything to it and then paying the big lump sum each month before it could get charged interest. Oh well at least it didn't hurt anything doing that and I may have even made a tiny bit of money by keeping it in my account for longer
