almost_there Posted April 30, 2003 Report Posted April 30, 2003 I'm typing up my first round of disputes for EQ, I picked out 6 or 7 accounts I think I can get rid of with the not mine dispute. So my question is, how do I word this exactly in my letter? I've listed each account and underneath it I typed "I have no knowledge of this account." But it seems like there should be more said than that.At the end, after the list of accounts, I summed up that I want these items investigated and removed. Do I need to say more than "I have no knowledge of this account" or it that enough?Any ideas on how to word this would be appreciated Thanks.
wannahouse Posted April 30, 2003 Report Posted April 30, 2003 Well I wondered the same thing and I used the not mine approach by stating, "This account is not mine, please remove this information." I don't know if that's good or not but the CRAs did investigate. The accounts were not removed but they were updated to the "correct status" as PAID. They were showing as unpaid charge-offs. So they're not gone yet but at least showing PAID. Which is all the mortgage lenders want for an FHA loan.Anyway, sorry to ramble on and on. Hope this helps.
md Posted April 30, 2003 Report Posted April 30, 2003 If they are not your accounts then why would you say anything more? If they were your accounts then I can see why it would be odd to say "not mine" if they were in fact yours. Keep it simple and to the point. If you want them to look into it as a "no knowledge of account" then there isn't really anything else you could tell them, unless you have some police reports regarding ID theft or something to that effect. Good luck! I am not quite at that stage yet.
