A different tactic??

Sorry to keep asking so many questions....

I have a store credit card account that was closed by creditor in Dec 2002. I've been making payments (I'm not sure why they closed it when it only shows 1-30 day, and 1 60-day late...but that's irrelevant).

Anway, I am going to call them to try and negotiate a delete in return for a "Paid As Agreed." At least for starters, and then work towards whatever agreement we can come to.

But, I was wondering. Do you guys think it would be helpful to negotiate for them to re-open the account in return for a payment in full? What about for payment of 50% of the current balance (leaving the remaining balance, of course)?

I'm thinking that this might be easier to get them to do, and it would lower my debt-available credit ratio, as well.

Any thoughts?

Is the account current or are you past due?

If the account is current and you are making payments still, but there are a couple lates, I would recommend writing a goodwill letter asking the OC to remove late pays.

What do you mean you are going to negotiate a delete for *paid as agreed*?

If you arent behind on this account, just have a few late pays, then it might be a good idea to hang onto the account, especially if you dont have many positive accounts at all.

But, since the account was closed by creditor, wouldn't it be better if I could get them to re-open it?

Yes that would be optimal if they will do that. Call them up and ask what their policy is, they will probably ask for payment in full and reveiw your credit which will result in a hard inquiry but it's worth that because the account will add tenure to your report.
