laura66
I have a collections account through the library for fines. However, the payment goes directly to the library. Who do I ask for a letter of removal, the library or the collection agency? This is one I definitely want to pay, out of good character, but I don't want to scr** myself in the process and make this go on longer than it needs to. Any suggestions? laura66
One more thing... if I am able to get the library to agree to removal, what kind of letter would be acceptable? If I type up a settlement letter and have someone sign? Who is acceptable to have sign? Does it need to be on the library letterhead?
sisflomi
I have never had a lib send me to collections. Never even knew they could!!! How much do you owe them?
laura66
I owe them $148.00. Late fees on a pile of books my daughter checked out for a school project and forgot to return...
sisflomi
Did you dispute this with the cra's as not mine yet?
laura66
I did that on 5/22. I'm just getting impatient while I wait. There's no specific "department" in the library to deal with, just the checkout desks. They don't know what to do, so I'm feeling stuck. I'm wondering though, if I can work that to my advantage, by having the person at the checkout desk who takes the money sign a letter stating to have this item removed from my credit report. What do you think?
sisflomi
If you have a letter that is on the Lib letter head, and it states this shouldnt be on your report and theres no bal you should be able to send that to cras and get it deleted. Why not wait for now for the dispute to come back. Once it comes back then decide what to do next. If it is verified, you can always try what is called a goodwill letter. You go to planetfeedback.com and sign up. Look for the lib an if they are listed, you pick the letter you want to send and modify to fit your needs. If its not listed, I think you can still send them a letter if you have the right info. But really, wait for the dispute to come back and see what happens. shamrockgal
sounds to me like if they cant figure out who you should talk to then how could they find validation information? send a dv letter, then pay at the library if you need to/want to. I believe if you look in the top board under Debt Validation it will explain what to do if the CA doesn't respond to validation. .... Sounds like the library is messed up,might work torward your advantage
new2this
I've worked as a Librarian at one of the largest Library Systems in the country and I can just about assure that a sob story to a Library Director or President of the Board of Directors will get everything taken care of.Make sure that you "mention" that this whole situation has soured your children towards libraries but you still love libraries and are trying to show them that it is still hip place to go.This probably would have been one of the easiest ones to settle if you had chose to go that route. A library only charges fines to ensure they get materials back so if you had the books and returned them, most libraries would have let you go with a slap on the wrist.I give in to sob stories everyday and have probably forgiven thousand in fines at this point.I'm very suprised that they turned you over to a collection agency. Where is this library?
sisflomi
Hey new, welcome on board the credit train!!!!!!!! Why can't you work for a ca or an oc in the collections dept???? I know, you could work for Orchard bank and I am sure we all have a sob story we can tell you. LOL, its nice to see there is some heart out there in the collection world. laura66
The library is in Orange County, CA. They turn over EVERYTHING over $25.00. Their records are accurate, they just pull up my account under my name and can print out a list of the fines with dates at any county branch. Their confusion is that they believe that the collection just disappears after you pay the fine. The collections is set up so that you deal directly with the library. The collection agency, Unique National, "syncs" directly with the library records, so it is updated as paid at the end of the day. But a PAID COLLECTION is not what I want, I want a DELETION. Thanks for all the help, everyone!
