Heard you shouldn't use new Cards for first 6 months

I was reading on another site saying that you shouldn't use a new card for the first 6 months when trying to increase your score.

Ex.: The Chevron rebuilder doesn't show up on you credit report until you first use it. If you used it immediately, your score would go down (because of new credit). But if you waited 6 months, then used it... it would report 6 months of "never late" on its first appearance... making your score go up.

Any thoughts on this "strategery?"
