DocDon
Write the CA or call your OC and have them immediately send an update to the CRAs. Then have them send you written verification this has been done. [Edit by DocDon on Monday, June 2, 2003 @ 05:51 PM]
lisak72
Did you do DV with the CA? Is this just the first round with the CRA, or is this after multiple tries? patience, grasshopper!
allann
i have written and called the ca and they say that they do not report to the cra. the oc is household bank...and trying to get them to report something with a zero balance is like pulling teeth from a person with no teeth. DocDon
The CA didn't report the collection to the CRAs? There is an obligation to report the correct status of any debt. To be more exact:§ 807. False or misleading representations [15 USC 1962e]A debt collector may not use any false, deceptive, or misleading representation or means in connection with the collection of any debt. Without limiting the general application of the foregoing, the following conduct is a violation of this section: (1) The false representation or implication that the debt collector is vouched for, bonded by, or affiliated with the United States or any State, including the use of any badge, uniform, or facsimile thereof. (2) The false representation of --(A) the character, amount, or legal status of any debt; or

Later you say that the CA is not listed. I'm confused!
allann
thanks docdon..the ca told me that they do not report to the cra...i will contact them tomorrow!!!
lisak72
so...now you are going to make the CA report this to the CRA? So you will have the OC listing a 0 balance and also the listing for a paid collection. To each their own, I guess...

If it's not, I wouldn't be contacting the CA just for the reason you gave.
lisak72
That's why I'm so confused! To me, you keep disputing this with the CRA...and can start hammering household on PFB. Won't help much, but you could also send this receipt in saying that this was a paid collection for the OC. You have proof its paid and the account should be 0! Dropping it down to a 0 bal should help the score a little, although this will still be a negative because its a paid CO.
allann
sorry for the confusion....it is listed with the oc for the 1139 balance on my credit report ..i paid it through the collection agency...i disputed it with the cra in hopes of getting it removed when it was not removed and came back verified i 1st contacted the ca to have them report it to the cra..no success...i then contacted the oc to see if they would report it...neither would... DocDon
If there is no entry on your CRAs from the CA, then don't bother with contacting them, as Lisak72 said. Write a letter to the OC with a copy of the "paid in full" receipt telling them they are obligated to update the account. At the same time, write a letter to your state AG and include a copy of the receipt as well.

Swede
OK so this post is totally confusing but I think the bottom line is that you have a chargeoff reporting on your account with a balance and now you want to send in proof to the CRA staying it's been paid so it'll show a 0 balance..........WHY?? A paid charge off is still VERY derogatory on your account. Sometimes, it takes a few disputes, I had JC Penney account that I disputed at least 7 or 8 times in addition to letters to the OC and finally it was removed. If you send in your proof of payment- you will not be able to get it off.
