When ever something shows up on your credit report that you are not aware of you always dispute as a "not mine" to the CRA'S 30 days latter is when you do a DV letter to the CRA'S and all you have to do to reference it is the account number supplied on your credit report.

OK. so when I do the first thing...its with the credit reportin agency?? Not the collection agency, when I am saying "not mine??"

That correct !! :) :)

Tommorrow morning you can call the CRAS(Equifax, Transunion, Experian) and tell them something should up on your CREDIT REPORT and you want to dispute it as "not yours", then you can go online and verify that it is on dispute and print it. That's how I do it!!!! It's works but it's the quick and dirty way to do it.

Most people write a letter to the CRA'S and dispute it as not mine, but you take the chance of getting a FRIVOLOUS response. You take the chance of losing 30 days. They do it via CMRR.

Personally, when I do the initiall dispute all I'm interested is that I don't get a frivouls response and I get all 3 cras to dispute at the same time. If I ever have to go to court I start my paper trail with the DV letter.

... I hope I didn't confuse you :) :)

OK...well I am here typing up CMRR lol...so your saying its more effective to get online access to my credit reports ...call them first.....then dispute online through one of the online services that I get my reports from??

Do u find that more effective than CMRR??

um, ... No, I mean call the CRA'S on the phone, verbally tell them you want to dispute as not mine, then once they mark you entry as in dispute as a "not mine". You can go on the net and make sure it are in dispute!!! ... then print it out. or you might ask the CSR at the CRA how you can get a hard copy as proof???

umm, I think you also dispute on line as not mine too(LOL), but I have never done it that way. I only give advice on things I have done, ...... sorry!!!!!!! :~ :~ :D

Just one other thing...

If it's a CA you've never heard of, and you haven't been hassled by them...I'd call them and ask what they are reporting.

I had a similar situation 3 years ago. Had a collection account on my report that I had never heard of. I called them, and asked what they were reporting. It was a $7.50 returned check. Because of state laws here, they weren't allowed to contact me, because they don't have an office in this state.

Short version, the lady told me if I paid it, they would remove it from my report. Poof....one 5 minute phone call, and I paid a legit debt, and it was off my report.

Ok, lets mix it up here, you can speed up your dispute fast if you want just going by fax (with a transmission confirmed).

Things to include in dispute:

Name

Address

Date of Birth

Social Security Number

Copy of Drivers Lisence (with the DL# marked out)

*** Important to back things up here, want to point out to you a few things you need to consider on how to process this dispute:

How much is the debt being reported?

When was the account asigned or opened?

Who is showing as the Original Creditor for this collection?

Is this something which you can affort to pay if push comes to shove?

Cause once you send a DV letter you definitley are in the game for good, and if the account is still within the SOL (statute of limitations) and the creditor can prove this to be your debt - you are open game to them to sue for the balance if you don't settle the matter with them.

If this is a debt, which is out of your means to pay right now, and it is still within the SOL, (and if they are not bothering you at this time) it is best to leave sleeping dogs sleep!. Wait until it expires out of SOL, for more information on SOLs look up top of this page for the link. - ok.

OK, :p

Ok, brought you the whole lot of them, lol

Also if you are disputing for mortgage or a major loan pending, let the CRAs know who they are, and that you would appriciate a rush on the processing. Let them know when the closing date is, and that you want the lender to receive an up dated copy of the credit report.

If I dispute something wtih Equifax (for example), and they received it on June 7, and they lose it....on July 7, it's been 30 days...it needs to be deleted.

I send them a letter demanding they delete it, with a copy of my green card, and it's gone.

Yes, then catching them on re-insertion; I have (@) definitely used this method for my DH to bump judgment. Well it was their fault, lol

Just told them I wanted to add a consumer statement & they had to go and mess it all up by deleting the judgment, so a bit later they tried re-adding. So I caught them on this part. :p opps, lol
