horns
I have a $549 CO from a finance company. The DOL is 8-2001.I am thinking of writing to them and telling them that the bill was overlooked and we did not receive any forwarded mail when we moved cross country (honestly). We just forgot about it because no mail or statments reminded us.What would you do?Proceed with the letter or just dispute as not mine with the CRA's.???ThanksJ
FICOfocused
I have a similar CO situation where I really didn't know I owed the additional money. I tried a goodwill letter to the company with no luck. I would try the "not mine" approach first, then move on to the letter. Unfortunatly, though these situations are legitamate, the company hears them all the time from people trying to get out of responsibility for their debt, and so this particular angle does not have alot of strength behind it. But hopefully you will have better luck than I! Hopefully it will drop due to the not mine dispute, and you won't have to worry about it.
horns
Thats just it, I want to call them and settle it in full, but Im fearfull that they will say "you have to deal with the CA at this point".
FICOfocused
Oh - if it is not paid you should start with the CA for sure, and tell them you would like to settle in full for deletion of this charge off on all your credit reports. Get it in writing that they will delete the item!!! I am sorry, thought we were dealing with a paid CO. In this case, start with the CA. They may tell you they can't delete it, just change it to paid in full - DONT LET THEM DO THIS! This will change your date of last activity and could make you have to deal for this for longer. There is alot of info on here re: how to negotiate for deletion, and if you have the money to pay them in full, you should be able to have success. I would look around in some other threads, and check out the collections portion of this forum. Good Luck
