user33658
I disputed a late payment on a loan that has been paid in full and closed for almost 4 years now. I first tried a Goodwill letter with the creditor and they did not respond.Anyway, I called them to get the account payment history on my closed account and was told that it cost $10 for them each statement copy and research. I explained to the lady that I did not want a copy of my statement, I just wanted my account history preferably faxed to me. I was told that I would have to pay them to research this.Should I send them a DV letter disputing the late payments?

retmar
What a ripoff! This is the first company I have ever heard of that charges for an investigation of a possible error on their part. One thing I can think of is that you write a letter saying that while looking at your current report, you found that it was being reported that you were 30 days late. As far as you could remember, you don't recall ever being late. For this reason, would they send proof of your being late. All that you are asking for is a copy of the particular statement that told you of the past due amount. That way, you should only have to pay for one page. The only other way I can think of is to go through Planetfeedback relating to this, and, at the same time, you don't think it is very consumer friendly to charge for something they may be the cause of. user33658
The loan office I spoke with said that because I was no longer a customer and since the account was in archive, there is a charge.
retmar
It's still a ripoff. A company as big as they are and they are that cheap. They need to close their doors. BTW, they just lost me as a customer. I'll pay the extra money for Michelin. I've traded with them for over 40 years. And yes, I'll tell them why. kb9tbq
No, you don't want a payment history - what you want is for them to correct their reporting of the account on your credit report. And you should not have to pay - FOR THEIR MISTAKE!!!If they don't remedy the problem, inform them, that you will be filing a complaint with the BBB, FTC, and AG...Inform them that you did pay this account in full as agreed and they are not showing this on your credit report. And that you expect them to correct this matter with out any further charge to you.Keep on them, you are in the right on this matter.
retmar
Go get'em KB! I'm very glad that someone else agrees with this. The reason I mentioned the one particular statement is that usually they can't produce and will retract. Also, if he did have to pay, it wouldn't be as big a ripoff as it is. TylerDurden
Question, have you disputed this with the CRAs? If they already "archived" this account, and they didn't respond to your goodwill letter, maybe this is a good thing and you should just dispute it with the CRAs as "never late". Chances are they may not respond to the CRAs investigation, and the CRAs would have to remove the lates. Just a thought...
