Anonymous
What would be the best way to get old accounts taken off of your credit report, that are in good standing but have not been used for several years?I have 6 revolving accts that i no longer need, and i would like to have the OC to close the accounts as well as have them removed from my report.with them being revolving accouts, it is impacting my credit score I have a total of 13 revolving accts on my report and i want the older ones removed. thanks
creditfix
Don't have the old accounts removed. Simply call the creditor and close the accounts having them reflect "Account Closed By Consumer" on your credit reports. You want the older ones on there because that will effect your score in a positive manner. They want to see old accounts even if they are closed. However, if they have derrogatory info on there, by all means, try to get them deleted. It is the available balances that are lowering your score. They want you to have something available - but not too much! This is the craziest thing I've ever seen. They try to make it too difficult for anyone to understand. Read the info on credit scoring on this site. [Edit by creditfix on Wednesday, 27, 2002 @ 12:46 PM]
Anonymous
they are not over 10 years, more like 4-6 years old.i used the simulator thing on experian and it showed that if 5 or 6 revolving charges were not on there or i guess maybe closed that it would increase the score almost 40 points.. none of them have any negative marks on them they are just still open and havent used them in over 3 years.would a acct closed by consumer be better than having it taken comepletly off? illegal_alien
I thought I was the only one with 10+ credit cards!!! I think good accounts stay in your history for 10 years after they are closed by you. If its closed by grantor, then its considered derogatory and stays for 7 years. Having too many revolving accounts should not affect you unless you are trying to apply new credit card again.
jeajack21
You want to definitely keep all old accounts on your file due to the Fico Scoring System looking at the longevity of your history. They pretty much take the average of the years of all your credit cards and that's how they base alot of your score. I would definitely call up the Credit Card Companies you want to close and have them input on your CRA "Account Closed by Consumer".
