Looking for a little advice

Recommended Posts

Two weeks ago I was contacted at work by a CA for a debt which shows on my credit report as last activity 4/1996.

I haven't sent letters yet but am planning to after reading this site and the message boards.

The debt was originally owed to Citibank but on my credit report the company name shows as Asset Acceptance Corp.

Further digging thru the helpful info on this site lead me to call the FL Attorney General which told me that Asset Acceptance withdrew their application for a license and also the SOL for open ended accounts is 4 years.

So to progress forward from here (I have just gotten all this info gathered today) should I write a letter to cease and desist? A letter of validation? Possibly a registered mail letter stating something to the effect that the SOL has expired, they aren't licensed and therefore if they continue to harass me I could in turn sue them?

I am new to all of this so was hoping I could get a few bits of advice from those of you in the know.:)

Thanks so much!

Welcome,

You should check with TJ and see what's new on her end. She was going thru the EXACT same thing and she's in FL too. She's been scarce for a little while, prolly still eating turkey but check out the AssEAT Acceptance threads and send her a msg.

Another quick question and I think I am on my way to becoming a thorn in ASSet's side.

I have the Cease & Desist letter all typed and I also have one of their envelopes to send it to them in (I loved reading that one here) - the address I have from their debt collection notices is a post office box - but I do have their HQ address off their website - can I send certified or return receipt mail to a post office box?

I am leery of sending it directly to the HQ since I am not sure who if anyone will actually acknowledge receiving it.

Yes, you can send certified return receipt mail to a PO Box. The postmaster will put a piece of paper in the box stating to come to the counter and sign for it.

HTH :)
