Morgan
Sorry if this has already been discussed, but how can collection agencies attempt to collect on a judgment after the SOL expires?I read that if they can't collect within the SOL, that in most states the judgment can be renewed indefinitely. Any info on this?
bingo
If a judgment is obtained prior to the underlying debts SOL expires, collection may continue for as long as a judgment stays in affect in your state. Many states keep judgments on the books for well over 10 years. There is a table on this site that gives the SOL for judgments by state. Just remember, when a debt is reduced to a judgment the ballgame changes and there are very few rules and most are in favor of the judgment creditor.
