Settlement on car lease

Recommended Posts

Hi:I just discovered your site tonight and can't believe the wealth of info that's available here. It's great! My issues concerns a car that I leased from Acura through American Honda Finance. The Car lease was for 36 months, and ended in September of 2000. I called to make an appointment to drop the car at Acura for the end of lease appraisal. In the interim, as a recurrent Acura customer the sales manager took the car back from me and literally put me in my new Acura lease the same day. This all occurred before I received the written report from their appraisal company who evaluates end of lease cars for wear & tear for Acura. The appraisal company came back with a price of $800.00 to repair a "keying" scratch. Mind you, this 800.00 was above and beyond the initial security deposit I had on this vehicle. I told them I would not pay that, and they needed to come up with a better price. Since they had already taken the car back from me, I had no way of taking it to a body shop for an independent repair estimate. I sent letters to Acura and to American Honda Finance regarding this. The appraisal company came back with a price of 600. I told him I still was not satisfied, as I was a lease holder with them for 8 years and had turned this car in with 10,000 miles under the original lease and I knew that this would make it a prime car for them to resell. As a good faith measure, I sent one payment of $100.00 in at that time. The last contact I had from them was January 2001. No word since then, up until last week when I received a letter telling me that they were "ready to settle" my account for 357.91 and that I should pay it, to avoid further legal costs. If I don't pay by 2/11/03, then I am taking the risk. Can anyone out there give me some advice? I believe that they are "prepared to settle" because my current Acura lease will expire in Sept. of this year...I am in a financial bind right now, as I lost my job last year and do not have the "spare" cash laying around to end up in court over this. Any help you can spare would be greatly appreciated!!!

Well a paint job can be cost alot of $$$$ they are probobly planning on painting the entire vehicle being that the door needs to be painted, which is perfectly legal. But I previously bought a used car from an Acura dealership here where I live and it had some scratches on the door, needless to say they would not paint the entire car (like I wanted) they only used some touch up paint to cover it up for probobly 5-10 washes. I would try to negotiate with them see what they will drop to.But keep in mind that if your were in a car accident and you had a little scratch on your door or something, the Insurance Co. (after about 6 months or so lol) will eventually pay you to paint the entire vehicle, atleast that happend to me..

Good Luck....
