grantjeffries
What is the SOL for il? The link up top shows 6 years but i have seen it listed as 5 years as well. Also i can't find a listing in my state's licensing database for a CA. How can I tell if they are authorized to do collections in my state? kb9tbq
Collection Agencies - are tied to the original creditors SOL for the type of account you have.SOL listing here is correct; all but for medical accounts, and that is 5 years.
wert
I just did this CA licensing thing a week ago because of court:The CA that sued me wasn't listed on my state's report. To verify it, I sent an email to the licensing department. I played dumb and asked a lot of questions so I could get it in writing that they were not licensed and when the license had indeed expired-12 of 2001! Sweet. It worked for me! Can an account charge off in say 1999, be due to drop off in 2006 but the OC sells it to a CA in 2004 and then the CA lists your account until 2011?!SOL listing here is correct; all but for medical accounts, and that is 5 years.</blockquote>3.) kb what is the SOL for a credit card? When i click on the link at top and put in IL it shows 6 years for open ended accounts. Other places i have seen it is 5 years... kb9tbq
Open End accounts are 5 years in Illinois - I have confirmed this by a few different sources as being the right number of years.

How can I tell if they are authorized to do collections in my state? Here's a link to the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation that govens collection agency licencing http://www.dpr.state.il.us/WHO/coll.aspAnd here's the link to search for active licences https://www.ildpr.com/licenselookup/default.aspFYI, my source state IL open account SOL is 5 years http://www.edebtnetwork.com/content/collection_laws.asp#IllinoisNo, selling or transferring an account to a collection agency does not extend the 7 years. The 7 years ALWAYS go by the delinquency with the OC.
