Anonymous
I have some debt(not too much) that are in collections. I'm in the validation portion of this. What happens when him and I are married? Can the CA sue him since he is my husband even though the debt was accrued before we were married? LadynRed
NO, he does not assume liability for your debts. Even in a community property state, it only pertains to debts incurred during the marriage, nothing before.
Anonymous
so it's okay to marry someone with bad credit? my fiance has charge offs up the wazoo on his CR and doesn't even care. i told him i wouldn't marry him until he cleans that up. but... if it doesn't affect me, all i have to worry about his him maxing my cards or 'our' cards if we do get married? bingo
Poor credit with open chargeoffs will keep you from buying a home. Also, should he be sued and you live in a state that allows wage garnishments that could be a problem. Bad credit by 1 party in a relationship is something to consider as you try and plan for the future. When it comes time to finance a home or car, your income and credit will have to carry the day unless you want to pay subprime rates.[Edit by bingo on Tuesday, May 20, 2003 @ 07:39 PM]
