medical bills against minor daughter

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I have a question about medical bills against my daughter who was a minor at that time. I was billed for services that I did not sign for nor authorized and neither did she. I asked for proof of the bill which was not provided to me and the bill which is now in collections validated the bill by stating it was against my daughter having the same address as mine. Can medical service providers bill me for services that I did not authorize nor sign for and hold me liable for alledged services for my minor daughter?

Welcome to the boards!

I have a question for you, is this the OC or a CA? You can do a Debt Validation with the CA. One thing we have learned from reading the boards is not to pay until the debt is validated.

The medical provider may have a document showing your signature on a blanket authorization to treat...however, it is up to them to provide that document :)

Keep in touch...we want to know how it went ;)

Hi,

According to the collection agency, they have verified the debt by stating it was against my daughter having the same address as mine along with her ssan. I had asked for proof where I sign or authorized the service but from their reply, they do not have to provide that information. I know for a fact that I never signed or authorized medical services, that is why it went to collections. Their reply is that she is my daughter and a minor and I am responsible for payment regardless. At that time is did not know what my recourses were without incurring more debt from a lawyer. I just told them that I wasn't going to pay for it.

So what you're saying is that the CA is asking your Daughter for the money not you

If she is a minor and it is being reported to a CRA you can dispute with the CRA not the CA. A Cease & Desist Letter can be sent to the collection agency and you can attempt DV with the CRA.

I thought they were asking you to pay for your minor daughter because she was living with you at the time she was being treated by the doctor. I have a duaghter that constantly continues to use my address even though she has not lived here in eight years :p . Children...what can you do :D

Let's se if what I said will help if not write again we will fiqure this out together and come up with a solution :ginger:
