Got Cap One Charge off Removed!!

Recommended Posts

Just checked PG and it shows that EQ & EXP have deleted a Cap One paid charge off from 1998. I had 2 showing - 1 was individual and the other was joint with DH. I disputed both as "not mine" and they deleted the joint account. I am so happy!!! On mine they issued me a new credit card 2 years ago and I have had perfect history since then. They also lowered my interest rate on purchases to a fixed 9.9% so I am very happy with Cap One. I was really shocked because I have seen so many people post that they cannot get them removed. It only took 1 dispute with each (still waiting on TU) and it was removed in less than 30 days.

I have 2 capitol items on my reports. One is for a old car loan i had back in 96=5. Capitol One obviously bought hte account. The oc appeared on my reports about 2 years ago. i disputed it and it was deleted. They sent me the original contract stamped paid in full as of may 16, 2001. Capitol has tried to collect the debt, but i have never responded to anything on this account. It appears on my Tu report as a charge off as of 2/02. What should i do now. The updated on 2/03. SHould i dispute again not mine, or just start the dv process?

I would make sure to put the "paid in full" letter in a safe spot, you may need it. In the letter, does it say that it was sold to another lender? I would think that since the OC sent you a letter saying paid in full that would be all you would need to get Cap One to leave you alone, but I'm not sure.

When was the account charged off by the OC? What state do you live in? You will need to know if it is within the SOL to know how to proceed. If it is within the SOL you will want to be very careful on what you do.

I don't know when the oc charged this off, b/c it was like a year or so before i knew about the board when i had it deleted.

I recieved a letter from Credit Acceptance Corp. who finaced the car. the letter says. Thank you fo ryour final payment on your contract. We hope that our services was satisfactory and that you will use again and recommend us to others. You will find your papers enclosed (which was the origional contract from mustangs and More) stamped paid date 5/16/01. If your account was paid off ahead of schedule, you may be entitled to a refund of the unused credit life and/or disability insurance premium. Pleasr contact your dealer for any applicable refund. (The dealer may wish to examine your PAID CONTRACT).

this is what i recieved from the oc, but captiol one has it pened 3/2001 vlosed 2/02 updated 2/03. charged off as bad debt 2/02. The totaled amount finaced on the contract is $4,456.00. Capitol One has it Balance: $5,125, Most owed $3,964, pAst due $5,125.00.

Can anyone help me out on this. I live in Little Rock, Arkansas.

According to the SOL link above, the statute in Arkansas is 5 years on a written contract, but this would be from the OC & Cap One cannot restart the SOL or the 7 year reporting period, just because they bought the debt. Was the vehicle repo'ed? If so, when? Do you know approximately when you made your last payment? I would think that the letter that you have from the OC stating paid in full would go a long way in trying to dispute the account off of your credit report. Hopefully one of the vets on this board will jump in and give you some advice.
