Still working on Mervyn's RNB - playing hardball for, would you believe $21.00!

Still waiting on AFNI...may need to sue because of violations - continued collections. We will see.

Thanks guys sooooo much for your support. I really, really appreciate it :sweet: :cheesy:

Vonniegirl, I thought Mervyn's went out of business. My wife had a card there and went to buy something one day, in Miami, and it was closed with indication of out of business. Her account was listed on her CR as delinquent, but she never used the card and wrote to them asking what was up with the small balance. She never heard from them. She thinks it was some kind of membership fee or similar, but they would never answer so she assumes they are really down the tubes. Is Mervyn's back in business?

No, they're still around...just downsized. Tried to reach them back in '96 however, number changed no forwarding information.

I did a consolidation loan and paid the balance of $396.00 and they're hounding me behind $21.00 :(

Because the OC is reported on CRA, I can't send a DV or C & D. Just waiting for the CRA to send me their method of validation. I guess it should fall off next year but I want them gone now

vonniegirl, Mervyn's is usually easy to work with. Have you called them and tried to get a "nice" person on the telephone? I actually got them to change my credit report a few years ago. I paid the balance and in exchange, they removed the derrogatories. It just says PAID. I would suggest you keep trying. $21 is such a small amount and you already paid them almost $400. That should count for something. :D

Thanks creditfix,

It was difficult trying to reach them after the move from my parish. I really was surprised because I had not heard from them after the payment in 1996.

I have sent a dispute letter to all 3 CRA's along with the copy of the check paid to them . Do you think I should send Mervyn's a copy too?:notsure: It appears to be the only OC derog I have on my report :(

Good thing youi solved your problem with them. In my wife's case she didn't owe them anything or if so a very small amount when Mervyn's left Florida. She went to them one day and they were gone. She never got a bill or anything.

It has been about 8 years so the SOL is long over with for Florida (4 years). We will dispute it soon. A big problem with companies that go out of business or similar -- their billing gets all messed up and WE pay!

jeff,

I won't give up my $21.00 easily... they'll have to pry it from my ever gripping fingers :D

The problem is ...because it was so long ago, I may not have documentation of this additional $21. :(

I guess the next best thing; if Mervyn's provides acceptable verification is to settle and ask for removal of derog or wait to see when the SOL is and forget about it :notsure: :)

It definitely couldn't hurt to send them your copy. I would just try to be very nice and say there must be some kind of mix-up and that if you had known there was another $21 due you most certainly would have paid that along with the $396. Let them know they are causing irreparable harm to your creditworthiness and that you know they could work something out with you. :D
