Anonymous
I had a 60 day with a Countrywide mortgage. I am aware of the 60 day late so I wrote a "friendly" letter to Countrywide explaining the circumstances and kindly asked if they "could provide any help". I also asked that they show that the account was paid and closed in 2000, as it is showing as current with a zero balance. I never heard back from them but all 3 reports now show the info. as disputed. I then sent letters to the CRA's asking that they verify the information. Finally, my question is: On my experian report there is an area that says "Your statement: Account information disputed by consumer (Meets requirement of the Fair Credit Reporting Act)". What does the reference to the FCRA mean???? Are they implying that Countrywide has validated the information? Thanks,Kathy

admin
Any account you dispute with a creditor must be reported by the creditor as "disputed" per the FCRA. Countrywide just mistook your goodwill letter for a dispute.
