Inactive vs. Closed

Recommended Posts

Well do you still have this credit card to charge on? If you still have the ability to charge - then would do so and re-new your status on this account. The history of this account can help you credit score (for time established). Sometimes if you don't use the account - the credit will close due to inactivity.

If you are not associated with charging any longer - you should really call the creditor to close the account.

This way you don't - down the line sometime become a victim of id theft. Because someone just happened to find your complete account number and charged to the account themselves.

Thanks for responding kb9, you always put out good stuff.

This is an old Montgomery Ward (they're defunct now) account that is presently being listed as 'Inactive/Never Late'. The Experian rep told me I could have them (Experian) list it as closed/never late. I have no idea which would be the most positive listing as it relates to my credit score.

Thanks so much - that means a lot to me.

On Montgomery Ward - I do believe they are out of business (least in my area) so leaving this alone as is; won't hurt at all.

If you where to close it - then you would only get another 10 years life out of the good reporting before it expired.

Yes Monkey is out of business, but I hear they are still verifying credit stuff out of ??? office or through ??? company.

When Monkey closed our account, they actually wrote it down that WE closed it (which helped us), then WalMart said sorry to see them go, but here have our card instead LOL
