Anonymous
Well, I really messed up last week when I went on to dispute some items on my TU CR. I used my normal e-mail address (dumb) and wasn't thinking at the time. Ever since then each day my e-mail is full of SPAM. I guess a new address name is in order. Never mind the opt-out claims by some. They sell addresses. What I can understand is why there are some many idiots in this country on Internet who would support the SPAMMERS. I hope they get what they ask for -- fraud and abuse.
kb9tbq
When you get spam e-mail; what ever you do DON'T respond to the e-mail; even to have yourself removed from the mailing list. This only invites more spamming; and opens you up to attack. Use the blocking option or filters to relieve the flow of junk. [Edit by kb9tbq on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 @ 05:05 AM]
kimber6337
Stick to credit KB, because thats NOT true. Respond, click the unsub link and tell the fools to unsub you! They have to honor it or they violate TOS for most email hosts. I always do and I get about 1-2 spams a month vs the 15 a day prior! It will take you a month or so to cycle through all the lists but your spam will go away!OMG @ TU doing that! Jack@sses!
Anonymous
My ISP does a great job screening out viruses and that stuff, but their SPAM filtering must have glitched lately because I get all kinds of it. When I get some I forward it to their security address and they are supposed to add it to their list. Once I tried the reply thing to take me off their list and that set off two weeks of three and four SPAM from the same address every few hours. I sent their stuff to other spammers and it stopped. I can decode their addresses and return their SPAM to them by the thousands. But, nothing seems to work now.I wish they would ask me what I think. I have a list in Outlook that I print out at times. Any time I see one I will never buy any produce form them or anyone connected with them. Like Sears, no one in my family (four plus in-laws) will never enter a Sears store again. Well, maybe all our money is a drop in the bucket, but I have many, many friends who will not enter into a Sears as well. Why? Because everyone I know has had problems with Sears! techgoddess
I almost never get spam. I've got a fake email address I use when filling out forms online (it's actually a real one that my friend set up on his server that deletes every email it receives.) If I actually need to give my email to a company, (like if I order something online) I make sure to read their privacy policy and make sure I don't have anything clicked that says that they can send me email about thier other products, etc and that they can share my email address with anyone. It seems to me that most reputable companies are pretty good about stuff like that. That's annoying about TU though, I guess they're making money on the side by selling their lists. kb9tbq
The reason I say it is not a good idea to respond to e-mails for unsubscribing is because; they are not all legit e-mails being sent by businesses - if you respond to the wrong ones; they will know that they have a legit e-mail address to further persue hacking your computer. techgoddess
I've noticed that most reputable companies are pretty good about it. If you want to really play dirty with these guys, look into the email headers (you have to look at the source code of the email) and see exactly where the spam came from. This will give you the isp of whoever is sending you the email. Then send a friendly email to abuse@nameofisp.com saying that their user is sending you spam and that they need to be shut down. Be sure to include the headers from the spam you received or just attach the entire email.

But, without thinking I put my real address in while looking at what TU was doing to my disputes. Nothing as usual.Do you have to pay for those fake addresses? I have a couple forward mail addresses so maybe I'll use those. Sometimes I go look in the input box and tons of porn and credit card junk is there. I usually just leave it hoping the mail box get full and rejects additional incoming. Yahoo gets full then just stopps taking incomng.
techgoddess
I actually have a friend who runs a small web hosting company so he just set up that email address for himself and all his friends to use (spam@irev.net, feel free to use it.) You know, you can probably get an extra email address from your isp and then set up a filter in whatever email program you're using to just delete everything that comes in for that address. My brain takes a break every so often and it needs recharging with fresh ideas At my age things seem more complex than they are. I was an engineer for 45 years. Maybe that is why I am always confused The again, the other day I knew very well if I took a certain bolt out from my telescope mount it would fall over on me. It did! My wife has restricted me to sweeping the floor unitl this thing passes. [Edit by jeffbeish on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 @ 03:26 PM]

Anonymous
Another thing. The other two CRAs have nearly the same items on my CR but TU seems to crop up new stuff that I have no idea what for or why. I disputed several items last year and never heard from TU, so I disputed every thing in my TU report and am waiting. I think TU must hire rejects from the other two. kb9tbq
I was going to suggest disputing everything so they don't mess things up worse. But in your case that would most likely be a good thing. lol
