Equifax New Dispute Question

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I'm new at this. I pulled my credit report from EQ for the first time today, and the first thing I noticed is that my date of birth is off by almost 5 years. I called EQ and was told that I need to fax/mail them copies of my DL and Birth Certificate or SS card in order for them to make the change. Instead, I faxed a letter stating that the DOB info is wrong and for them to please correct the info (not giving the correct DOB), as this indicates that someone else may be using my info to obtain credit ... (something to that effect). Would this fax put everything on my report in dispute? And how long does it take after sending the initial correspondence for the items to show as disputed?

You have to send the CRA the info. that they asked for if you want your correct DOB to show on your report. They will now send you a letter re-asking you for this info. Also, they will want you to submit a fraud alert and mark your account in this way. Were you a victom of fraud? If not you might want to re-think how you handle your CR repair.

Well all depends greatly on the person whom you call; sometimes if you can't get something corrected on the 1st try. Hang up the phone and call back in to get a different person and submit your dispute again. Most likely you will get a different response.

If you want to fix the matter for good; refax but include copy of your drivers license (with the DL # marked out) but make sure the picture copies clear for them to see as well as the DOB section that they can read. This should get it done for sure; I fax documents all the time with no problem.

In my case, I mailed letters cmrr on March 11th, they signed for them on March 14th but did not actually put them in dispute until March 26th. At first I was very upset about it since it took them so long but after reading several posts and finding that the 30 days for them to investigate started on the day they received my notice, I was happy. Their delay only gave them 18 days to respond instead of the normal 30.

Good luck!!
