Anonymous
I just received a call about an account with Discover, which on my credit report stated that I owed about 1400.00. The collection agency said I owe over 3000.00! I disputed this information with all 3 CRA and it was deleted! Does this help in my case that it was deleted?I told the guy on the (who was very rude) that I wanted written corresondence sent and he stated, "that he doesnt have to send me jack." He called me a "professional debtor" and a "professional con-artist." I have already logged a complaint with the FTC for the name calling. He also stated that they bought the account in 1992 but it wasnt opened till 1998? Did I do the right thing, and how do my chances look in this?Help! MAIL CORRESPONDANCE ONLY. If it was deleted, than that means the CA didn't validate it when you disputed, which probably means they don't have a leg to stand on. If they wanna keep calling you, send em a cease-comm letter. But for the love of all that is Unholy, NEVER talk to these guys on the phone. You need written proof of the crap they pull! Anonymous
Yeah I kinda figured that and that is why I told him I wanted written correspondence. Oh! I even told him that I disputed the information with all three credit bureaus and he sounded a little surprised; however, he then said that NO its still on there I have a copy of your credit report. He then started naming things on the report?!? I asked him how old it was cause when I disputed the information regarding Discover Card it was in December 2002. He the came back and said they bought the account in 2002.I just ordered a copy of a 3-in-1 credit report just to double check and I am waiting for it in the mail cause the site I ordered it from needed an additional account number for verification when using a debt card and I didnt have one at the time. The fact that he said he has a copy of my credit report alarmed me! Are they allowed to have a copy of your credit report too??
Anonymous
Oh yeah! Would it be a good idea to send Discover Card a letter asking them to validate this debt? I no longer have the accout number because it was deleted off of my credit reports.

Let sleeping dog lie. This is a true gift. I've never heard of a debt of that amount being deleted.
Anonymous
Glory to GOD !! This site has been so helpful to me in the past and none of you have failed me yet! Thanks for the advice of not sending a validation letter to Discover. The only thing I am still concerned about is the fact that the collections guy I spoke to was in their so-called legal department and had a copy of my credit report. He wouldn't tell me the date of the report, but it had to be old because Discover was still on it. Are they allowed to have a copy of your credit report while they talk to you ? kimber6337
Yes, they can pull your report for collection purposes. Sucks, I know. They use it to find your patterns - are you paying other debts off and not paying theirs, etc...
Anonymous
Actually I settled one account which was only 347.00 for 152.00 and I am currently paying on another. I was out of work for over 7 months so I am doing my best right now.

Anonymous
that is a rather good question? I am able to see when citibank reviewed my reports before I settled and started paying on my debts with them. Discover never pulled anything, and there is nothing showing that collection agency pulling my report. They havent called me since I spoke to that representative. I am praying that this is the end of it. So if the entry was deleted from your report, basically they bought a bad debt huh?
