Disputing Inquiries

Recommended Posts

Inquiries do affect your score. In this stage of the game, I was focused entirely on removing the hard inquiries (the ones that other creditors see and that do affect your score). This is what I found out.

Experian

- I asked for the fraud department, told them I didn't recognize certain inquiries, they put them under investigation for 30 days then deleted them. It did make it go smoother that 2 days before this I had put a fraud alert on my account. 2 days after the beginning of the dispute, I wrote a letter to them to cancel the fraud alert.

Equifax

- I told them that I didn't recognize certain inquiries and the deleted them right away. No waiting... Sweeeet..

Trans Union

- I wasted a lot of money on Certified mail return receipt requested, saved a lot of receipt and followed up on rejections up to 4 times. I threatened to sue, etc., etc.. They just ignored me. My only option was to sue and I don't have the time to do that, which is what they are counting on of course. My girlfriend called everyday multiple times a day for 3 weeks and got the same old story "Inquiries are a recording of fact, contact the companies that reported the inquiries" until she finally got an operator who deleted all the disputed inquiries on the spot. She was able to plead and be distressed. I'm a guy, my pride doesn't allow me to do that. Darn!!

If anyone's found a way of getting inquiries off TU, besides pleading like a girl, please forward to this board. I hope this helps.

LOL - the other way about it is to go directly after the creditor which cased the inquiry & threaten them.

I just had success getting inq off TU.

Sent them a ITS letter, received a letter today saying they would not investigate them.

Called them and said I was extremely pissed and she said to disregard that letter cause 3 of the 6 had already been removed! :)

1 inq is going to fall off this month anyway so that leaves me with 2!!!!

Intent to sue; if they don't remove the unathorized inquiries.

Remember that collection agencies have permissible purpose w/out authorization from you. Since they are trying to collect on existing debt.

But if you have inquiries by companies which you don't have established credit with - these are the ones to go after.

When you guys call TU to dispute injuries, do you use 1-800-916-8800?

I have a direct number to the Jackson MS office, which handles Injuries. That # is 1-601-933-4012

What kind of injuries? Are you trying to advertise for your own personal injury law firm? :p How dare you!!!

I just called that NO. and they can't even access your report from that location. She told me due to FCRA that they need a letter from the OC and from you in order to remove the inquiry. Then they keep those letters for 30 months. So even if the OC does send a letter telling them to remove the inquiry(injury) they can't remove it unless they have a letter from you as well. Whats up with that?
